THE top suits and some of the on-air talent at CNBC were recently ordered to a top-secret meeting with General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt and NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker to discuss whether they've turned into the President Obama-bashing network, Page Six has learned.
"It was an intensive, three-hour dinner at 30 Rock which Zucker himself was behind," a source familiar with the powwow told us. "There was a long discussion about whether CNBC has become too conservative and is beating up on Obama too much. There's great concern that CNBC is now the anti-Obama network. The whole meeting was really kind of creepy."
One topic under the microscope, our insider said, was on-air CNBC editor Rick Santelli's rant two months ago about staging a "Chicago Tea Party" to protest the president's bailout programs -- an idea that spawned tax protest tea parties in other big cities, infuriating the White House. Oddly, Santelli was not at the meeting, while Jim Cramer was, noted our source, who added that no edict was ultimately handed down by the network chieftains.
CNBC flack Brian Steel confirmed the get-together, but insisted: "The dinner was to thank CNBC for a job well done in our in-depth reporting throughout the financial crisis. As far as our coverage is concerned, we are built for balance and we are unabashedly pro-investor."
Our source retorted: "That is complete bull[bleep] . . . they didn't invite a lot of people to [the meeting]. There were many staffers who were working 24/7 during the crisis who weren't asked to attend, even Santelli, who was a big star for the network during those weeks. Why not?"....

can someone post a picture of that guy crying
leave Obama alone!!! what has he ever done to you!!!
leave him alone!!! cry cry cry
What ARE they smoking.
Uh, how could they infuriate the WH. According to Gibbs, the President wasn't even aware they were going on.
Two bucks that Santelli’s contract won’t be renewed!
My tax and spend liberal friend dismissed the tea parties yesterday telling me they were just a project of Fox News would be so dismayed to learn that everything started at CNBC. What a shame.
This is the death knell of a dying dinosaur.
They wonder whether their reporting is too conservative in it’s nature. Isn’t the real question “Are we reporting the news accurately, without bias?”
Here’s a multi-billion dollar suggestion, and I’ll throw it out for free.
“Report the freakin’ news, as it happened, without bias. Then let the view make their own decisions”. It seems to be working pretty good for FoxNews (ohhhh, but they are a Conservative station .... that is kicking your butt into bankruptcy).
Main Stream Media Are we picking on your god?
Chris Matthews is your leg still tingling?
CNN mouthpiece for Obama
Fine, Fox should pick him up.
They didn’t have a problem with the Bush bashing of a year ago, but now they’re up in arms?
They are trying to put a false image of what they are to the sheep that watch them and beleive everything they say.
Logic is not in play here.
I guess they don’t want to be on the HLS hit list.
This is satire, right?.....................
LOL! This is because GE received money on Obama’s recent Bill. It was disguised as some sort of environmental investment (now that is an oxymoron) They passed that money to NBC, MSNBC, etc....
Now the congress or the Obaman administration is leaning on GE to silence them. It’s so obvious what is going on here.
Now imagine if this went on with Bush in the White House. Maybe investigating MSNBC. The press and the media would be screaming bloody murder. However, since their buddy Obama is in the White House, then that is ok to do. Unbelievable!
What a bunch of crap. If the lame stream media told the truth about this administration, they wouldn’t have to worry about whether that was bashing or not.
Rick Santelli will be getting the same type of treatment from NBC that Bernie Goldberg got from CBS.
My Lib friend gave me the same line — that the tea parties were a “commercial project of Fox News” — I told him to “stop drinking the kool aid lies of PMSNBC, the Chicken Noodle Network, and the National Barack Channel. It’s a grass roots movement, dewd. Get a clue.”
I don’t need no steenkin’ network to bash 0bama.
I’m bashing the idiot on my own.
