In Texas, 31% Say State Has Right to Secede From U.S., But 75% Opt To Stay
Rasmussen Reports ^

Posted on 04/17/2009 12:36:45 PM PDT by Scythian

Thirty-one percent (31%) of Texas voters say that their state has the right to secede from the United States and form an independent country.

However, the latest Rasmussen Reports poll in the state finds that if the matter was put to a vote, it wouldn’t even be close. Three-fourths (75%) of Lone Star State voters would opt to remain in the United States. Only 18% would vote to secede, and seven percent (7%) are not sure what they'd choose.

If Obama can be president without proving he’s a natural born citizen of the U.S., then we have a right to secede.

I thought the right to secede was part of Texas’ agreement when they entered the Union ... not subject to opinion. Do I have this wrong, or are they really saying 69% of Texans don’t know their rights?

“Overall, seven percent (7%) of Texas voters have views that align with America’s Political Class or lean in that direction”

“the same as the national average”, apparently.

There is a “Political Class”, that has “Aligned Views”, and this is fine, we’re talking about that now?

How come Rasmussen and Pew never do polls like:

"Only 20% of Americans believe President Obama when he says there are 57 states..."

or

"Only 34% of Americans believe Nancy Pelosi when she says 500 million Americans are losing their jobs every month..."

“Do I have this wrong, or are they really saying 69% of Texans don’t know their rights?”

You have it wrong. So does Gov. Perry (surprise, surprise. The deal was that Texas could split into, I believe, five separate states. The purpose being to increase its “territorial” voice in Congress. As recently as the 1930s, John Nance Garner tried to arrange just that.

It depends upon which poll you look at.

I think that was about the same poll numbers that the Tar-heels of North Carolina had in 1860 and early 1861. And boy how quickly the Federals changed that poll around? Them same Tar-heels eventually fielded the some of meanest hard fightingest sons-a-#itches in the war. And I'm proud as hell my ancestors were among them.

Most of them were from probably from Mexico and didn’t want to live in a country with secure borders.

31% of Texans are too stupid to realize that their state cannot secede from the Union.

No one could agree on which of the 5 new states would get the Alamo.

There was talk in the 70’s of carving a Hispanic state out of Texas but some Hispanic leaders argued that the Anglos practice of birth control and abortion would give Hispanics the majority in only a few years and thus they would have all of Texas.
