At first glance I looked at this as something good, as it would mean a terrible end for many AQ supporters, given the Soviet Union's brutal response to terrorist attacks in the past. But then I remembered that those days are long gone. Today Russia and the associated republics are no longer "The Bear" that was feared throughout the world. After all, what happened after the attack on the school at Beslan? I don't recall anything. Had something like that happened in the old days of the Soviet Union, KGB, GRU, and Spetznatz units would have swept into a number of the home villages of those who participated in the attack, and there would have been no survivors.
That is how a country must deal with terrorism (and piracy as well).

The friggin Russians may well have been behind those terrorist attacks themselves, using them as an excuse to crack down on the breakaway states.
