Slouching Toward Columbine: Darwin's Tree of Death

April 20, 2009

David Klinghoffer

I've long been fascinated by the image of the Tree of Death, parallel to the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden and cryptically referred to in mystical texts explaining the Hebrew Bible:

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the Tree of Life also in the midst of the garden, and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 2:9).

Come and behold: as soon as night falls, the Tree of Death rules in the world and the Tree of Life disappears high above. Then the Tree of Death is the sole ruler in the universe, and all inhabitants of the world taste of death (Zohar III:119a).

The image, and today's gruesome Columbine anniversary, provide an occasion to reflect on Darwinian evolution's social consequences, from school shootings to Nazi racism and more.

Charles Darwin's theory of evolution with its Tree of Life is applauded by most sophisticated Americans and Europeans as a scientific idea pure and simple, without the aura of dread and terror that, properly, should surround it in our minds.

Why should we so regard it? Not necessarily because of any judgment about whether the idea is right or wrong as science, but rather because of the uncanny way evolution has had of supplying the rationale and creating the backdrop for the most twisted, monstrous social movements that have sprung up in Western culture in the past century and half.

On April 20, 1999, two boys at Columbine High School in Colorado massacred 12 fellow students and a teacher, wounding 23 as well before shooting themselves...

Sad to see the event being turned into and used by the anti-gunners “hoping for change” that only government and politicians should own and control all the guns.

When one of the assailants, Eric Harris, was autopsied, the medical examiner found that under his black trench coat the boy had on a white t-shirt emblazoned with a peculiar slogan. The slogan was "Natural Selection." It was later reported but little commented upon that, on his website, Harris had written, among other paeans to the Darwinian mechanism, "Natural SELECTION!!!!!! God damn it's the best thing that ever happened to the earth. Getting rid of all the stupid and weak organisms...but it's all natural!!! YES!"

I was not aware of this link, but of course it is not surprising. The Darwinists love to equate humans with animals, so this connection was necessary for these boys to dehumanize their victims enough to carry out such a slaughter. It is interesting how quick the media are to blame it on video games or inadequate gun control, but of course they would never touch the government schools' obsession with Darwin and their banishment of God.

“God is Dead, therefore I am god.”

That’s precisely what liberal edumacators have been filling student’s heads with for the last 50 years...

And that’s precisely the lesson Klebold and Harris applied.

Thanks for posting that -- NO I had not seen it in all the ten years since Columbine, the MSM did a good job of filtering it out.

Now I can hit my cousin with it, I'll bet he didn't know it, either.

Like your tagline, too, btw. I bellyfeel doubleplusgood prolefeed myself, makes a great emetic if I'm out of salt and ipecac, lol.

Observe that Timothy McVeigh, the murderer and terrorist, was a hero to Klebold and Harris.

Observe all three facilitated the same goal... for the very thing McVeigh allegedly sought to oppose.

Read 1984. Orwell succinctly describes how terrorists are a requisite element for rationalizing and perpetuating the police state.

Klebold and Harris, like their hero McVeigh - were nothing but useful idiots.

Fascinating and plausible theory you posit there, my friend.
IF you're correct, there just has to be an awful lot more of these people in the pipeline who've yet to *blossom*. People representing all facets of whatever they've been programmed with/by, waiting.

Indeed, we're all now living in interesting times.

Who's doing the twisting? Who has the crazed agenda?
Be forewarned, the linked image of Harris's web journal is full of foul language and just plain evil. It starts with:

"It would be great if god removed all vaccines and warning labels from everything in the world and let natural selection take its course. All the **** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** in the world would die..."

There is no denying that the Columbine killers looked at natural selection as something worthy of their worship.

There is likewise no doubt that the Columbine killers had the same level of understanding about evolution and natural selection as do most of the posters on GGG’s threads.

To use Klebold and Harris as a hammer against Darwin’s theory aptly demonstrates that level of understanding.

[[The Darwinists love to equate humans with animals, so this connection was necessary for these boys to dehumanize their victims enough to carry out such a slaughter.]]

Yup- they love to equae humans to animals, and also to turn right around and espouse subjective morality- they can’t even make up their minds which it is that they want- either they condemn the acts because of objective morality, or they stop their crying because they think the boys were just acting on their ‘animal instincts’

The one htign about the liberal media is that they are NEVER EVER satisfied- always whining about something- they whine about the moralities of the fundamentalists and the Church, then whine about the ‘immorality’ of those that commit acts liek Columbine- my conclusion is that it must really stink being a liberal

Never mind that this is basically an appeal to consequence:

"Harris and Klebold may have used 'Natural Selection' as an excuse to commit murder. Therefore, evolution is incorrect." is what this argument boils down to.

those two boys were extremely troubled, what they did was horrible, and it in no way should be linked to darwinism, video games, marilyn manson, bullying, high school cliques, or any of the other inane theories surrounding their actions. what it boils down to is that their parents sucked at their jobs and did not realize the extent of their children’s problems. perhaps with an active parent in either one of those households this tragedy never would have happened.
gun control, record label warnings, video game warnings, self-esteem classes and anti-bullying seminars will do nothing to prevent tragedies like this from occurring. the only prevention is good parenting which we obviously cannot guarantee.

Rhetorical nonsense. Whether or not you believe a theory to be "evil" has nothing to do with how that theory adheres to evidence. Your argument is an appeal to emotion. That is:

"a fallacy which uses the manipulation of the recipient's emotions, rather than valid logic, to win an argument."

Sorry Box, the so-called Darwinian “theory” of evolution is so full of holes, even the Evos are abandoning the HMS Beagle in search of a new God-denying evolutionary ship. The new evolutionary “synthesis” (as the Evos like to put it) will undoubtedly be just as scientifically unsound, and just as evil, but it doesn’t change the fact that the Temple of Darwinistic Materialism is on its way out, even amongst the Evo-faithful.

I have posted a plethora of articles and scientific papers demonstrating that Darwood’s materialist creation myth has been refuted by science. In addition to Darwin’s so-called ToE being false, it also turns out that it is EVIL, as evidenced by Nazism, Communism, and a host of other -isms that are premised on Darwood’s natural selection god.

What's more, I very well doubt you could tell the difference between the modern synthesis (which has been around for much longer than you seem to think, and with some changes, is the accepted paradigm in evolutionary biology) and Darwinism. I suspect that you refer to any naturalistic theory of evolution as "Darwinism" as a way of framing evolution as a cult or religion.
