In other words, "The Politics of Personal Destruction" are now being brought to bear on an elected representative of the people by the apparatchnik of the state.

There will be more of this...

Well said.

We haven't seen nothin' yet!

They may out do the Clintons.

The messiah hath cometh....

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the son of God appears

Rejoice, Rejoice, Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel!

This IS bombshell ....a game changer, if they're playing this dirty with Jane Harman, and bodes badly for how low they'll go. It's jaw dropping.

~~~~~~~~~~
"So this leak has to come from the top. If these sources are to avoid prosecution and/or loss of their jobs, they must have been assured that the Obama administration explicitly authorized it, and that Attorney General Holder would not prosecute.
NSA presumably will not even complain about this leak of its top national security means, content and procedures. Without that top-level assurance, everybody involved in this report has to fear an instant subpoena from the Justice Department and from the House Intelligence Committee.
*snip*
Who would have authorized it? If I had to bet, it would be the President or his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, or the National Security Advisor.
Why was the leak dropped at this moment in time? Because the anti-Israel forces are rising to power in the Obama Administration. They are dropping this Rahm Bomb to discredit pro-Israel members of Congress in general, and Rep. Jane Harman in particular.
But Jane Harman was one of the few Members of Congress who seemed genuinely upset about the wholesale leaking against the Bush Administration by the CIA and other intelligence agencies.
This is payback.
It has to come from the top.
It is politically timed.
It's a Rahm Bomb. Last week Rahm Emanuel came out in the press, telling the media that Israel would have to withdraw from Jerusalem and the West Bank in order to get US cooperation on the Iranian nuke threat.
That was a direct threat to the new government in Israel, putting the cart before the horse.
It makes no strategic sense, because all of Iran's neighbors, including the Saudis, are shaking in their sandals about Tehran's forthcoming nukes.
All these events are closely related. The NSA leak bears the power-loving stamp of the radical Left, which could not care less about wiretaps, violations of privacy, and the super-secret status of the NSA.
Shades of J. Edgar Hoover. We're back to the FBI dropping political bombs to strong-arm LBJ.
Civil liberties advocates take note. This is only the first such leak. There will be more.
Combined with the DHS attack on "rightwing extremists" last week, it bodes ill for this administration's respect for the rule of law, not to mention personal privacy."
Major scandal erupts involving Rep. Jane Harman, Alberto Gonzales and AIPAC
*snip*
"Allegations that Harman intervened in this case in an effort to win the spot as chair of the Intelligence Committee have been widespread since 2006, but an FBI investigation into Harman was dropped for “lack of evidence.” As CQ Politics reports:
What is new is that Harman is said to have been picked up on a court-approved NSA tap directed at alleged Israel covert action operations in Washington.
And that, contrary to reports that the Harman investigation was dropped for “lack of evidence,” it was Alberto R. Gonzales, President Bush’s top counsel and then attorney general, who intervened to stop the Harman probe.
Why? Because, according to three top former national security officials, Gonzales wanted Harman to be able to help defend the administration’s warrantless wiretapping program, which was about break in The New York Times and engulf the White House.
When Justice Department officials reviewed the transcript of the wiretaps on Rep. Harman, its attorneys determined she had committed a “completed crime,” which, according to CQ Politics is “a legal term meaning that there was evidence that she had attempted to complete it.”
The Justice Department attorneys wanted to open a case on her, but they needed the green light from top intel officials to confirm it rightly constituted a national security investigation. Porter Goss, who was then the CIA director reportedly approved the investigation and was preparing to notify then-Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Speaker Dennis Hastert and, through them, Harman herself:
But that’s when, according to knowledgeable officials, Attorney General Gonzales intervened."
~~~~~~~~~~

This is a vicious, evil group, and I don't know who's more brutal and cold-blooded: 0 or Rahm. And if they'll do this to their own ..............................

This should be in Breaking, in my opinion... it's HUGE.

Just getting started on the thread. What was it Obama said? He was taking names. Add to that: Nancy Pelosi would love nothing better than to neutralize Harman.

Crap. I thought for sure when they started destroying their own the dems will speak up. We shall see.

I think the Dems know what's coming and they want to be as far away as possible. Chicago is a rough place and screwing with them will, at best, cost you your political career. At worst... Valentines Day comes to mind...

This whole thing. From Wall Street to Chicago reminds me of that 1970s movie 'The Boys from Brazil." Someone has groomed these pretty young fascists to destroy American culture and lead the United States into decline. There is a puppet master. Is it Soros? I doubt it. He's too public. The masters are smart enough not to be seen. If we had a legitimate intelligence operation, we would know. Or, maybe they do know...

Sounds a bit tin foil hatish but, how else can anyone explain what is going on? This is not rational or logical. Just scary.

Slowly and methodically they have taken down members of the GOP. Some have been brought down by their own weaknesses (Newt) and some have been the victim of corrupt local officials doing the dems dirty work (DeLay).

It seems the next phase has started—moderate dems. It may be the stuff of tin foil or black helicopters, but I am at a loss to explain the the success they have had in such a short period of time.

It is breathtaking in a way. less than 100 days and the USA is bankrupt, 19 of our largest banks and two of three domestic auto companies are owned/controlled by the Federal government, the POTUS has pandered to EVERY enemy of the USA, the GOP is braindead and moderate Dems are heading for the hills. It is either the End of Days or some VERY powerful people behind the scenes are celebrating a great victory.

Remember last week when there was another article in the NYT on ‘improper’ wiretaps of a US congressperson who had met with enemies in the Middle East?

I wonder if this is being leaked on Harman, so that if the other congresscritter who met with AQ, Hamas or Hezbollah(not sure which it is yet) will not get as much attention?

The democrats are masters of smoke and mirrors.

Report: NSA Tried to Spy on Congressman
Thursday, April 16, 2009 1:17 PM
By: Dave Eberhart

###

A senior FBI agent is charging that the National Security Agency under the Bush administration considered wiretapping a member of Congress without a warrant, according to The New York Times.

The allegation, buried in a story discussing allegedly illegal surveillance of American domestic phone calls, sparked a guessing game in Washington Thursday because the article only hints at the identity of the lawmaker.

The reason the NSA considered tapping the lawmaker is made clear in the article: the congressman — part of a delegation to the Middle East in 2005 or 2006 — was in contact with an extremist already on the agency’s watch list.

Apparently the idea was nixed when agency officials decided it might not be a great idea to spy on a member of Congress, particularly without court oversight.

So far, though, no one has identified the member of Congress, though many blogs are combing through itineraries to come up with a short list of candidates.

The Justice Department says it has modified electronic surveillance by the NSA after discovering the agency had accessed American domestic phone calls and e-mails improperly, according to a report in the Associated Press and other news sources.

According to the Times, some intelligence officials revealed that the NSA had been engaged in “over-collection” of domestic communications of Americans. They went on to describe the practice as “significant and systemic — although one official said it was believed to have been unintentional,” according to the Times.

That issue of whether the trespasses were intentional or not hinged on technical problems in the NSA’s ability to consistently distinguish between communications inside the U.S. and those overseas — as it tapped U.S. telecommunications companies’ fiber-optic lines, as well as its own fleet of spy satellites to intercept millions of calls and e-mails.

In its statement released Wed. night, the Justice Department said it has taken “comprehensive steps to correct the situation and bring the program into compliance.” The agency, however, did not reveal any details of the overhaul.

The Justice Department further stated that issues with the NSA program were uncovered as Justice and NSA were conducting routine oversight of intelligence activities to ensure compliance with laws and court orders, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

After reportedly instituting new safeguards, Attorney General Eric Holder has sought court approval to renew the NSA program.

Meanwhile, the House intelligence committee, which has oversight over the NSA was informed of the compliance issues and is conducting an inquiry, a House congressional official told the Times.

In 2005, the New York Times revealed that for years following 9/11, the NSA intercepted international phone conversations and e-mails involving U.S. citizens without a warrant.

That aggressive program was halted in 2007. The following year Congress passed legislation requiring the NSA to get court approval to monitor the purely domestic communications of Americans who came under suspicion.

That’s the article I was talking about. It just seems strange that this Rahm bomb on Harman comes out right after this other ‘leak’. Bait and switch.
