Time Magazine: 'Odd' That Gun Control 'Petered Out' After Columbine
NewsBusters.org ^ | 4/20/2009 | Matthew Balan

Posted on 04/20/2009 12:24:23 PM PDT by Pyro7480

Michael Lindenberger of Time.com, in a April 20 article titled “Ten Years After Columbine, It’s Easier to Bear Arms,” found it “odd” that “whatever momentum the Columbine killings gave to gun control has long since petered out,” despite the “massacres perpetrated by deranged gunmen” in the following decade. He also quoted extensively from a young gun control advocate in the online article, without including any arguments from the opposing viewpoint.

Lindenberger first gave his reflection on the anniversary: “Monday April 20 marks 10 years since Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold permanently etched the words Columbine High School into this nation’s collective memory. What happened that day in 1999 also seemed to wake America up to the reality that it had become a nation of gun owners — and too often a nation of shooters. The carnage in Littleton, Colorado...seemed to usher in a new era of, well if not gun control, then at least gun awareness.”

The Time.com writer continued with a seeming lamentation: “In the decade since, massacres perpetrated by deranged gunmen have continued — including the 2007 Virginia Tech massacre in which Cho Seung-Hui killed 32 people and wounded many others. But something odd has occurred. Whatever momentum the Columbine killings gave to gun control has long since petered out.”

What's probably even odder to the Time magazine guy is how so many guns were sold after Obama was elected.

Whats more telling is Time Magazine’s paid subscriptions have ‘petered out’ since Columbine.

What's really unfathomable is how Time's circulation plummeted after their gun ownership/suicide issue.

Its not odd at all. Apparently most Americans realize that throwing away your means of self defence doesn't mean the other guy is going to the same thing. But then, liberals were never good at simple reasoning. If they were, they wouldn't be...............LIBERALS!!!!

Perhaps Columbine, Virginia Tech and Binghamton have told Americans that law enforcement sits outside while killers execute their unarmed victims.

Anyone with more than a couple brain cells to rub together, and an ability to read, already knew that the United States has ALWAYS been a nation of gun owners - since BEFORE we even officially became an independent nation, in fact.

....my local gun store guy told me “the industry was completely unprepared for Obama”....last week I picked up 50 rds of 9mm at WalMart....it was their last box and they don’t know when they’ll get more....and this is in N.C. mind you, a big pro-2nd Ammendment state.

"wake America up to the reality that it had become a nation of gun owners — and too often a nation of shooters."

Of course if you are a gun owner, you would be a shooter. What is the purpose of owning a gun if you never use it?? Stupid Time writer. Thats like saying we are a nation of automobile owners and too often a nation of drivers.

“Anyone with more than a couple brain cells to rub together, and an ability to read, already knew that the United States has ALWAYS been a nation of gun owners”

An effective way to shut up an antiguner who talks about the need for more gun control following these incidents is to explain that such crimes were much less frequent in the past when there was much less gun control than there is today. Ever hear of anyone shooting up a school in the 40’s, 50’s 60’s or 70’s?

What someone needs to remind this booger eating moron from Time is that as horrible as the death toll was at Columbine, had those evil two had their way, far more would have been killed. It was because the propane bombs, set to explode during a time when hundreds of kids would have been killed, and then as the survivors evacuated the building, the evil two were going to be waiting to "pick off" the survivors.

It was only through the Grace of G-d that their original plan failed.

I wonder why Time doesn't mention how propane tanks and other hardware, like nails need to be controlled at least as closely as guns.

I posted this on another thread about Columbine.

I'm sure the media will be every bit as introspective and reverent when the next anniversary of the Waco massacre comes around.

While 13 people were killed at Columbine by two loner nut cases, over 80 people were killed at Waco by the very organization that was created to safe guard us all, the government. The Columbine shooters would have been punished if they had been caught prior to their suicides. No one was ever punished for Waco.

My take on all of this - forget Columbine. Remember Waco.

Amazing that yesterday is what we used to call Patriot’s Day in this country - to honor the sacrifice of those who lit the fire of the first American Revolution with their own lives.

Not a word. Silence. Except at the Appleseed events, where we fired 13 timed shots at ‘redcoat’ targets, each shot preceded by a call out of the name of the first thirteen who fell at Lexington Green.

Over 2000 shooters, coast to coast at 50 Appleseed events, all at once.

I guess we’re all terrorists now.

Odd?

Q: What does a casualty count above 3 in a public spaces shooting indicate?

A: a gun-free / victim-rich killing field was involved.

Could it be that sheeple are catching on?

What’s “odd” to me is that there is no increased control of psychotropic drugs which cause violent and suicidal tendencies in our youth—which led to the massacres at Columbine, VT, and others.

Dear times—

Why didn’t it grow? Because we fought back, and we won.
Rosie o’donnell lost it when she said all gun owners should be in prison. Second amendment sisters was born on FR to fight against mmm, and all supporters of the bill of rights rose to a common cause.

That’s why

The integrity and activism is akin to the tea parties..

Indeed.

I had several conversations with folk at our Baton Rouge event last week on this very subject. It went something like this: “Wonder how local tv (or the New Orleans Times-Picayune or the Baton Rouge Advocate) is gonna cover this?” My stock response was “We don’t need them any more. Look at all the video cameras we have.”

After about 1 1/2 seconds, they responded, “Ya know, that’s right! And we can have it up on YouTube even faster than they can put it on the 6pm news!”
