Check out the video on the Today show of Miss California, Carrie Prejean, claiming it wasn't about being politically correct but "biblically correct." She said it goes against what she stands for. She said she wouldn't change a thing and that she has a purpose and knows now she can go out to young people about standing out for what you believe in and stand up for what you believe in for anyone or anything even if it is for the crown of Miss USA.

I don’t know how people could expect that an event celebrating the young womanhood of America would include its denial as well. In gay relationships, as I understand them, someone is always the ‘fe-male’ so to speak. It’s not like an American pageant (Miss America, USA, etc) would permit a drag queen as a contestant.

What is interesting is she is getting more interviews and more publicity than the girl who won it.
Call it the Vanessa Williams effect. Nobody can name who was Miss America that year, but everyone remembers Vanessa. (I know that was a bad example, but I do think this will give her far more publicity than actually being Miss America.)
