Primarying John McCain: A stupendously bad idea [Chris Simcox running for seat] (Barf Alert)
The Flint Township/Swartz Creek Advance ^ | April 21, 2009 | Susan J. Demas

Posted on 04/21/2009 10:21:56 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

It used to just be Democrats who had no use for their losers (see Carter, Jimmy), but evidently some Republicans like that idea, too. Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, is challenging John McCain in the GOP Senate primary next year.

Not that this is particularly surprising. The Arizona GOP didn't even back McCain in the GOP presidential primary last year.

While McCain certainly has an appeal to moderates and independents like me, working across the aisle on immigration and campaign finance reform, he is a conservative. He's been a vocal critic of President Obama on the economy (calling his budget a "threat to the nation") and even lashed out about a Department of Homeland Security report tracking right-wing extremism. But that doesn't appear to be good enough for some people.

There is a reason why Democrats cheer each time a conservative Republican knocks out the more moderate candidate in the primary. It makes it that much easier for them to win the seat.

To a Maoist, a Leninist is a "conservative."

The headline reads like the seat was bestowed to McCain for life by God Almighty. The true shame of our political process is the lack of primary opponents.

That's one of those comments like, "If we had some ham we'd have ham and eggs if we had some eggs."

Anyone could beat McLame.

Let's hope someone does. That might be the beginning of taking back the Republican party and finding a home for conservatives.

I keep telling my husband that I won't be surprised if this old fool can live long enough, he may be the Republican nominee in '12. It may be "his turn" again if the party continues on the same path it has been on for years. Cheaper, too, for Soros since he wouldn't have to buy a new candidate to take on Obama in another fake election.

Yeah. Probably NOT a good idea.........

I hope someone comes out and beats McCain. We have to throw out all the incumbants! Sorry, they all sold our children into slavery to China.

No, it’ll be Romney’s turn since George W. Romney never got a turn in the 1970s.

I am afraid that Mr. Simcox would frighten the mild-mannered voters of AZ more than the illegal invaders.

And I could call myself the King of Spain, but that won't make it so.

Yes, like the New Yorkers who have to import a senator, the AZ folks can’t live without their daily dose of McPain.

I definitely think the GOP should heed the protests of a 'rat "moderate and independent" from Meeshigan posting on a WaPo blog. No doubt she can be trusted to offer wise counsel.

The MSM attacks on Chris have started already! The MSM is scared,

I think we need to get over the idea that the Left is "scared" every time they launch a hatchet job. We need to recall that it was 'rats who coined the White House War Room (for domestic politics of destruction) and the eternal-campaign mode. They are vigilant and swift, because they know there is no virtue in delay when attacking your enemies at every turn, no matter how small.

This is how dictators have come to power in the past--Lenin, Hitler, Mao--destroy or neutralize the opposition as early and completely as possible, and keep the pressure on until dissent is stifled. The tactic is not new. We should recognize it for what it is. He who controls the news cycle, rules.

Susan J. Demas: Joe the Plumber in Michigan: Pass the Tea, Drink the Kool-Aid

Hailing Joe the Plumber as an authority on tax policy is kind of like appointing the puffy-shirted FreeCreditReport.com guys expertise on the Somali pirate situation.

Of course, that’s what the assorted anti-tax and right-wing groups did when they breathlessly begged the man formerly known as Samuel Wurzelbacher to headline their Tea Party protest in Lansing.

Unless Arizona voting laws and Republican voting rules are changed, Simcox won’t have much of a chance.
