"Red Dawn": Important Movie Marks 25th Anniversary, as Star Fights Heroic Battle Against Cancer

This is one of those things that makes you feel old. Some movie publicists tell me that Thursday is the 25th anniversary of an important movie, "Red Dawn," which depicts a Soviet Communist invasion of America and a band of American teens--the "Wolverines"--who heroically fight them off. (IMDB differs and says it was released on August 10, 1984, so I'll repost on this, again, then.)

American Cinemathique sent me word that the organization will be marking "Red Dawn's" 25th anniversary with a special showing and discussion at the historic, restored Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, on Thursday Night at 7:30 p.m. So if you live in the Los Angeles area, this is a great opportunity to see this excellent movie

I remember thinking it was kinda campy when I first saw it. But the scene where C. Thomas Howell executes the politician’s son pulled me in.

One of three Swayze movies I really liked. Next Of Kin and Road House the others. God Bless Swayze and his wife as he battles on with his illness.

Red Dawn is a training film for the next three years.

That’s your opinion, I thought it was great; especially where it put in the commentary against gun registration lists..

Ghost? Point Blank? Dirty Dancing not on your list?

Swayze was vastly underrated as an actor.

I also liked North and South (mind you I was a child at the time-and Yes my parents let me see it- Orry was one of my “Heroes” as a kid), Lord knows why they did with the adult sexual stuff included (though I liked the battle scenes, and plot (but looks corny if you watch it today)!

Prayers for him, and his family!..

I love it when the Russian soldier complains that his execution is against the Geneva Convention, and Swayze replies, “I NEVER HEARD OF IT!!!!”

I did not like Ghost and Dirty Dancing. I thought Road House was a great B movie though. Sam Elliot was good in that as well.

And it also introduced people to the late, great Jeff Healey (RIP)

That’s right. He did a Dylan song in the movie, I think.
