AP Reporter Glowingly Compares Obama to Gorbachev
Examiner ^ | 4-21-09 | Phoenix Conservative Examiner

Is Barack Obama America's version of former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev? So says Associated Press writer Steven R. Hurst, and he means it as a compliment.

While historic analogies are never perfect, Obama's stark efforts to change the U.S. image abroad are reminiscent of the stunning realignments sought by former Soviet leader Michael Gorbachev. During his short — by Soviet standards — tenure, he scrambled incessantly to shed the ideological entanglements that were leading the communist empire toward ruin.

You know we're in tough times when the left starts expressing the idea that only a new Gorbachev can save us. According to the left-wing extremist mind, Mikhail Gorbachev saved the world from a nuclear showdown at High Noon with "Cowboy" Ronald Reagan. In recognizing the inability of the Soviet Union to provide for its people while waging expansionist wars abroad, Gorbachev attempted to save the union and communism by making some minor changes. In 1987 Gorby and his wife, Raisa, visited America. Leftist academics, journalists and assorted moonbats reportedly achieved multiple Gorbasms.

These changes failed, as once people got a taste of freedom they realized they liked it and wanted more. Gorbachev was ousted from power in a coup, and the nation he was called upon to lead dissolved overnight.

Such are the makings of a leftist hero. And to the leftist mind, Barack Obama is needed to make atonement for the oppressive, intolerant cowboy policies of the past.

But Obama is outpacing even Gorbachev. After just three months in power, the new American leader has, among many other things:

Leftist dictators do all start to act alike after a while.

A commie whose country will shatter during his term in office?

Finally, a reporter gets it right calling Obama a communist. I never thought I’d see the day.

I am constantly amazed that Gorbachev is still sucking air. That man is the textbook example of a colossal failure. Compared to Gorbachev, Jimmy Carter is a giant.

Gorby is less of a Marxist than Obama.

That's starting to look like it could be a well considered comparison. The Soviet states finally had enough of the bureaucrats in Moscow.

I’ll keep repeating this until liberals learn. Gorby was a totalitarian dictator. Every “reform” was aimed at preserving an oppressive government.

Unfortunately, it looks like Moscow wants to control them again.

AP reporters are the spawn of Goebbels and should be first in line when it’s time to hang traitors.

The AP scum never go to the hinterlands because they know they’re rightful targets.

I think its time to get the names of the AP reporters since most print news and most cable news and most mainstream media networds depend on the analysis of the AP WRITER GODS.

Perhaps we could send each reporter/writer a personalized set of knee pads with Obammy's favorite color seal emblazoned across the front.

That’s what I was thinking. Gorby presided over the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Could Obama preside over the demise of America as we have known it? That’s one historic parallel I don’t want to think about. I would much rather America stay intact until the next pres. election.

“Gorbachev was ousted from power in a coup,”...

That's the comparison that I'd like to draw.

Well said, CodeToad. At least, Gorby saw communism as a failure. Obama talks about doing away with the old tired ways. There is nothing more tired and worn out than Marxism. Never worked. Never will work. Communism goes against the natural laws of human nature.

Putin only saw weakness and “Useful idioticy” when he looked into Obama’s eyes. When Obama looked into Putin’s eyes, he saw a comrade.

Problem is that Gorby agrees with Putin’s statement that the collapse of the USSR was the greatest geopolitical failure of the 20th century, and wishes for it back.
