A beauty queen who told America that marriage should be between a man and a woman says God was testing her faith in the row.
'I have no regrets,' Carrie Prejean, 21, said today about the question that may have cost her the Miss USA crown and led to her being called a 'dumb bitch'.
'By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I'm glad I stayed true to myself,' she told Fox News today.
Prejean, a blonde student was one of the favourites to win the Miss USA title at the pageant held on Sunday at the Planet Hollywood hotel and casino in Las Vegas and shown live on TV.
Having negotiated earlier rounds of modelling in a swimsuit and evening gown, she was down to the final 15 and had to answer a single question from one of the panel of five judges.
Prejean picked celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who is openly gay and calls himself 'queen of all media'.
Hilton asked her: 'Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit. Why or why not?'
Prejean paused for a moment before replying: 'Well, I think its great that Americans are able to choose one or the other. We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage.'
She continued: 'And you know what, in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman.
'No offence to anybody out there, but thats how I was raised and thats how I think it should be - between a man and a woman. Thank you very much.'

I love her more each day!

Morality WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!
And she was shafted for having the courage of her convictions.
Perez Hilton is conspiring to intimidate Prejean and others involved in this and other pageants.
She’ll be remembered for years for her stand on this issue. How long would she have been remembered as Miss USA? Not very, I’d venture to say. Good for her. Perez, you are a jerk.
I love you, honey....
Who selected Perez HIlton as a judge, and why?
The winners of this contest are Ms. CA and, to a degree, Hilton, because they’ve gotten more publicity than the winner. Who even knew there was a Miss USA pageant on Saturday?
Where is Eric Holder?
I saw her talk to Sean Hannity. She is an amazing human being. I greatly admire Carrie for standing up for what is right and not backing down. As a fellow Californian I am proud to know that she is from my home state. God is on Carrie’s side and he will protect her through all of the vicious, nasty hate from the left
A Hetrophobe
He’s a vicious thug who is violating Prejean’s civil rights.
Where is Eric Holder?
He is too busy going after the Bush Administration..and oh yeah, making nice nice with the terrorists who want to kill us
Touche’ ANd don’t know how many niticed, but for all the talk of the fuss her answer caused, did anyone notice the applause and cheers? If there were boo’s the cheers drowned them out.
A conspiracy to violate the contestants' civil rights, plain and simple.
If this shoe was on a religious person's foot, Holder's "Justice" Department would be on him so fast it would make your head spin.
I’m adding her to my hero list. She really was as Joshua says “brave and courageous”.
If character is how one behaves when people are watching and it could cost you, the wrong person won the contest.
In a contest of the shallow, contestant Prejean stands out. ‘Tis a pity she didn’t win.
Perhaps that is because a perv was one of the judges. There is a reason homosexuals were proscribed in the Old Testament.
Somehow I think she will have many more happy offspring than Perez Hilton
You have to admire a woman who puts her God before some Miss USA title. The homo punk lost in the long run.
This is reminding me of the Anita Bryant incident. I remember her losing the advertising of some orange juice for something she said about gays. Gak, what a bad memory I have.
Perez Hilton is a snippy b*tch who wishes he could get into Miss USA contests. Just warped jealousy.
Good on her! And thanks for the pic.
It was a set up. You asked the question girly boy and you got the answer that you knew was coming. Despicable fag. She’s a courageous, and beautiful young lady and I give her a standing ovation for sticking to her convictions.
Having been tested, she was found not wanting in her belief.
I don’t see what the ruckus was about her answer, it was
perfectly sensible.
In another time, place, universe—Oh crap who am I kidding!
Not Guilty!
What gets me is the almost wistfully admiring comments on the part of the brits. They can literally be thrown in jail nowadays for saying something like that.
On a less philosophical level, Miss Prejean is going to get a hell of a lot more mileage out of this than she would if she had simply sucked up, sieg heiled the pink triangle and won the competition, becoming just another Miss USA.
As for Perez Hilton, I think he just popped his soapy little bubble. He had carved out a comfy, profitable niche as the blogosphere’s clown prince of light-hearted showbiz gossip. But now that he’s gone Rosie O’Donnell all over the place suddenly he’s not cute and funny anymore. Becoming just another angry, militant gay loon is not going to do his “brand” any good. People are not going to click on him just to hear his latest political rant. He’s toast.
I saw her with Sean tonight as well. I loved how she said that she sees this as a blessing. That she believed that God was creating an opening for her to share her faith. (paraphrasing)
Good for her and BOOO HISSSS to Perez Hilton!
In the contest between the Beauty Queen vs. the Drama Queen, the Beauty Queen won and stands head and shoulders above all those who fault her.
Saw her being interviewed on Fox.
Very level headed. Fox should hire her.
Series.
Reward her! She’s well-spoken, principled and nice.
American as apple pie. Something some people will never understand. Their loss.

I certainly hope so. My opinion is that no matter what side of the issue they stand on, Ms. California showed a heckovalot more class with her answer than Hilton. My only regret is that he didn’t show his true self during her answer so that EVERYONE watching could have heard it instead of waiting to call her nasty names from his website.
May God bless you Carrie.
Not guilty!

Makes about as much sense as hiring a vegan, to judge cheeseburger grilling competition.
Unreal.
Glad she’s getting the upper hand. Hope Fox hires her.
The USA crown is temporary, the crown she will receive from her Savior is for eternity. I believe Perez was sure she would give a PC answer because so much was at stake for her - it was like “I gotcha” moment. She stayed true to her convictions no matter what the cost and that is what really pissed him off. God bless Carrie.
I hope Janet Nappy heard her answer along with the clapping from the audience.
THAT look like a VERY confused person.
THAT looks like a VERY confused person.
Confused indeed. PETA is pissed about the fur and the “hellokitty” shower cap is made of petroleum products.
What’s a girl to do?
I didn’t watch the contest and so I don’t know what the other questions were like, but YIKES! It’s a beauty contest not a senate confirmation hearing. Why even bother with asking questions at all. Someone’s gonna get thrown a curveball while someone else gets a bit fat one right down the center. That’s so unfair.
Donald Trump

What a sick fat pig. Funny though how he keeps calling on CNN's Anderson Cooper to come "out".

Yes, I noticed that. She should have mentioned that she felt the same as Obama and 52% of the Californians who voted. Why would anyone have that Perez fool as a judge and why would they allow such a political question to even be asked? Grrrr.
