Gov. Bill Ritter today signed into law the historic Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act, which will provide health coverage to more than 100,000 uninsured Coloradans and reduce uncompensated care and cost shifting.
House Bill 09-1293 is the most significant health reform legislation in Colorado in four decades.
At no increased cost to taxpayers, the Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act will allow us to provide critical health services to people who need those services the most, Gov. Ritter said. This historic legislation will significantly address the crisis of the uninsured while also reducing uncompensated care and cost-shifting in our healthcare system.
By partnering with hospitals, the Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act will allow the state to generate an additional $600 million a year through a provider fee, and draw down $600 million in federal Medicaid matching funds. The combined $1.2 billion will support Medicaid and the Child Health Plan Plus expansions and be used to improve hospital reimbursement rates for service provided through Medicaid and the Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP).

Sen. Betty Boyd, chair of the Health and Human Services committee and one of the primary bill sponsors, said, Health impacts the entire state: healthy employees, children and businesses translate into successful businesses, productive workers, high-achieving students, and a thriving economy. The Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act will make healthcare affordable for all Coloradans, especially those who need it, and will make it affordable for providers who offer it. And it costs nothing! Everyone gets something and the money comes out of thin air! Betty Boyd is my senator. She is a dim bulb. Frankly most of the legislators in CO are dim bulbs.

Or maybe they’ll just like to take it out of some quasi-public corporation. Free money out of thin air.

100,000 will cost 1.2 billion? And they’re trying to say this is at no cost to taxpayers?

Before I selected Idaho, I had Colorado on my "possible" list for relocation from San Diego. I was afforded an opportunity to work on a contract in Denver (Greenwood Village) in early 2000. That experience crossed Colorado off my list. South Denver has nearly as many Mexicans as San Ysidro. The liberals in Denver and Boulder are nauseating busybodies. No thanks.

Colorado Springs was my likely choice. That was due in part to my son's interest in the Air Force Academy. He fumbled his request for an appointment from our congressman. When he signed up for the USMC, the Air Force Academy was no longer a draw to live in Colorado Springs.

At no increased cost to taxpayers Wow! Free healthcare! How cool is that?
... the Colorado Healthcare Affordability Act will allow the state to generate an additional $600 million a year through a provider fee, and draw down $600 million in federal Medicaid matching funds.
But, he said it wouldn't cost anything...
Never mind.

Provider fees = $80 aspirins or other surcharges on the bills of those who have insurance or whom the health care bureaucracy determines can afford to pay so the poor illegal aliens who can't afford to pay can get it free.
I shall never forget the astronomical cost the hospital charged us for our second daughter's diapers and other routine stuff because I had minimal insurance (which ended up paying next to nothing) and was employed for a whopping $15K per year at the time. But at least I got a great kid to show for it!

Yep, the Canadians may even stop coming to the USA for their health care, lol.
Snow Birds, from the north, have been going across to Mexico for years for dental care and medications. Many of those dentists were trained in the US. There may be a boom down there in medical care if this keeps up - [and the doctors are good enough].

Every cent your employer deducts from your paycheck that they may or may not match - plus more -
Is cash that you do not get paid
A union auto worker for GM gets $27-$33/hour
To Ford about $6/hour less
To non-union carmakers - $25-$19/hour
But the actual costs to GM are $75/hour
