INTERROGATION MEMOS ARE POLITICAL DIVERSION

I suppose next they’ll have an inquisition for Truman.

Probably the Obama Administration will want to indict him for war crimes having to do with the unpleasantness at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Repeat the new administration’s motto: America wrong, America wrong, America wrong.

Especially when it defends itself.

That’s what I think about these interrogation memos. By revealing their contents and vilifying their authors, the new Caesar can not only prosecute and destroy his political opponents, he can also further the emasculation of America’s will and capacity to defend itself.

You’ve heard about the memos, right? They were written in the first months after September 11 by Justice Department officials who had been tasked to define the border between acceptable and unacceptable.

New and different kinds of enemies had been captured – terrorist masterminds – and, our face still bloody from the collapse of the Towers, we needed to know what they knew. We needed to know who was coming at us and how.

In those days, the president said that no matter what, he would defend the United States. In these days, the president went against the recommendation of the intelligence community and selectively declassified secret memos that outline what we allowed then and what we will do now.

Why did the new president do that?

Repeat after me: America wrong, America wrong, America wrong.

In the first months after 9-11, we were dealing with people who handled prisoners by cutting off their heads. We dealt with prisoners by making them stay awake for a long time, and by subjecting them to the same waterboarding that our Special Forces troops go through as part of their training.

Their prisoners get cut up into pieces and dumped by the side of the road. Our prisoners live to go to trial.

To keep things straight, and to draw a dividing line in a shades-of-gray world, government lawyers wrote memos that said interrogators could go this far, but no further. They defined as best they could the right and wrong of a war that was forced upon us.

And they were successful.

We waterboarded just two prisoners. Both of them were at the very center of Al Qaeda attacks against the United States. One was waterboarded more than 50 times, the other more than 150 times.

What does that tell you?

That waterboarding isn’t dangerous.

It may well be unpleasant, but if you can do it to a guy 163 times in a month, it must not be too bad for his health.

But it was good for our intelligence.

Just last week, the Obama Administration’s intelligence chief -- Admiral Dennis C. Blair – wrote in a memo for his staff, “High value information came from interrogations in which those methods were used and provided a deeper understanding of the al Qa’ida organization that was attacking this country.”

That is the exact opposite of what Barack Obama has said. Of course, since the admiral wrote that last Thursday, he has been forced by the White House to repudiate it.

Which means that the government’s top advisor on intelligence has been ordered to change his assessment of a situation in order to support the political decisions of the administration.

Which is exactly what the Obama Administration accuses the Bush Administration of doing.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has challenged the Obama Administration to declassify all the memos related to the interrogations. He accused the White House of selectively releasing information that could be damaging without releasing other information that showed the success of the interrogations.

Last week, the White House declassified secret documents that embarrassed the country and angered its enemies.

This week, the White House says that it won’t block investigations and prosecutions of former government lawyers who wrote memos.

Next week, who knows what the White House will do.

But thus far it has used the sensitive and important subject of how we interrogate the worst of terrorists as a political whip to stir up the Democrat base. As attention focused on Barack Obama’s own policies, and support cooled, he has fallen back on what he does best – bashing George W. Bush.

These memos are nothing but a political diversion, a sideshow meant to help the administration steamroll its version of the new America. They are all a political game.

Sadly, they weaken American security and endanger Americans captured on the field of battle.

And Barack Obama seems to care nothing at all about that.

I hope His Majesty remembers that payback will be a b!t<#. Let's hope that President Palin will start proceedings against him in 2013 for being a traitor to our country. Just like election recounts, this type of crap has a way of becoming a self perpetuating event.

Obama supressed the relevant portions of the DNI memo showing that waterboarding the bastards saved American lives and thwarted our enemies plans. Why am I not surprised?

I think Obama won't get his comeuppance in this life. The next President — Rep or Dem — will not go after him because that would be lousy policy and practice. And the damage Obama is doing to national security probably won't hit during O’s tenure (so he'll just blame whoever’s Pres when terrorists hit). Obama has no honor, so he can't be embarrassed. Finally, the media and historians will protect him because he's black. After the White House, the Obamas will focus on making mega-bucks and traveling around being treated like Emperor and Empress. Argh!

OMG, that last one is like a cold, hard slap in the face. It really captures the reality of what the DHS memos mean. Great post.

The obama and his handlers continue to alienate large segments of the country. One has to wonder if that is not precisely what he intends.

This memo thing will rot until just before the election when suddenly a congressional report will make its way to the president to recommend a big dog and pony investigation. Democrats will need this in order to maintain their majority.

Yea, maybe so.
But should we get hit, all bets are off as well as the 'Rat's plans to maintain their total control.
The 'Rat brain bugs know this all too well and just have to be sweating.

Right now I wouldn't bet against the Republic getting hit some time before 2010, either. And FWIW *I'm* a betting man. ;^)

Our enemies would be utterly insane (not that they aren't) to hit the US again during 0bama's reign. Everything's going their way and we're doing the work.

Maybe, we shall see.

Like our very own Liberal-Socialists have a plan, so do the Islamofascists.

I'd say the matter would make for excellent wagering, suitable for Vegas.

I beg to differ, shortstop. This is a frontal assault. If he can successfully prosecute men of power, imagine what he wants to do to you. All of us.

There was an attack on an American city, Oklahoma City to be specific, and it was never clear who actually pulled it off. It was pinned on white supremacists, and you have never seen the death penalty applied as swiftly as it was in the case of Timothy McVeigh. I would love for someone to show where in the last 60 years, a trial led to an execution in a shorter time. But I digress....

Shortly after the attack, there were reports of Middle Eastern-looking individuals, but then-President Clinton pinned it on right-wing talk radio, and next thing you know, white militias. So a precedent has been set by a previous president.

Napolitano is only laying the groundwork to impose draconian law-enforcement measures on conservative elements in America, should any terrorists actually succeed in attacking us. Watch them describe Arab highjackers as white supremacists. You will not know whether to laugh or cry.

"There was an attack on an American city, Oklahoma City to be specific, and it was never clear who actually pulled it off."

No, you're correct it never was made clear.
But the innuendo did flow, liberally.

"It was pinned on white supremacists, and you have never seen the death penalty applied as swiftly as it was in the case of Timothy McVeigh."

You're absolutely correct, no one ever saw the death penalty applied so quickly. Obviously McV's failure was not declaring himself a member of Al Queda. /sarc

"I would love for someone to show where in the last 60 years, a trial led to an execution in a shorter time. But I digress..."

You may have digressed, but you're point hasn't fallen on deaf ears, either. In fact it's rather spot-on.

I've heard speculation McV had to be snuffed before he ever had the chance to talk, and in a[ny] prison he'd have had the chance to talk, eh?
I mean following his arrest, did you/I/anyone ever hear the guy utter so much as a word?
I don't *think* so;nor, have I ever heard of any report claiming he had made a statement to anyone other than the federal LEOs.
Odd, that.

"Shortly after the attack, there were reports of Middle Eastern-looking individuals, but then-President Clinton pinned it on right-wing talk radio, and next thing you know, white militias. So a precedent has been set by a previous president."

Yes, you're absolutely correct, again; however, McV & Co were defined as, "domestic terrorists" and thoroughly censored accordingly.

"Napolitano is only laying the groundwork to impose draconian law-enforcement measures on conservative elements in America, should any terrorists actually succeed in attacking us."

Maybe, as I said --since I'm no Nostradamus-- we'll just have to wait and see.

Just remember something, OK?
Foreign terrorists are another matter, foreign terrorists have their own mediots cheering 'em on.
Any potential future perps will eagerly claim credit; so, in the event of an attack on the USA our propagandist quisling mediots will have their hands full denying said claim(s).

The denials alone will raise even more suspicion; especially, among the zerO's own tepid supporters in the sacred middle.

"Watch them describe Arab highjackers as white supremacists. You will not know whether to laugh or cry."

The Arab hijackers own nothing to the US government unless they are a functionary of the US government.
The type of which I speak are anything but US gov flunkies as they hate us with all their being.

In fact merely insinuating an Arab terrorist's in league with the USA will --literally-- cost one their head even faster than the USA silenced McV. ;^)

You're assuming there will be an "after" -- that he won't make himself President-for-Life.

The guy's a Stalinist, you know. He doesn't play by our rules.

You're both right. Obama IMHO wants to put Bush Administratrion officials on trial, both to blacken and degrade his political opponents in the outgoing administration and to cow the present Republicans in Congress, but also to divert attention from what he is trying to sneak through Congress. Notice on another thread that the Obama Administration just tried one on in a Congressional committee but was defeated; now the issue will have to be debated in committee.

IMHO what Obama is doing is like a large-scale Russian tank assault: Attack everywhere, and then commit your reserves wherever you find a weakness, a gap -- then pour your reserves through and exploit.

I think it says a lot that Obama a) wants to hold Stalin-inspired show trials (they worked for Stalin), and also b) is strategizing as if he had Marshal Zhukov sitting on his shoulder.

He was educated not by the New Left, but by old-line, hard-core CPUSA Communists.

Just want to clear the record with shortstop, I wasn't making a hostile post.
