Pirate Bay lawyer demands retrial, saying judge was biased in file-sharing case

STOCKHOLM (AP) -- A defense lawyer in the Pirate Bay file-sharing case said Thursday he will demand a retrial after the judge admitted he was a member of copyright protection organizations.

A Stockholm court last week convicted four men behind the notorious Web site of helping others commit copyright violations and gave them one-year prison sentences.

They also were ordered to pay damages of 30 million kronor ($3.6 million) to entertainment companies, including Warner Bros., Sony Music Entertainment, EMI and Columbia Pictures.

Don’t forget Mininova, my favorite. Better looking interface but doesn’t have the same teeth and directories that TPB is famous for. TPB has vowed never to pay up and it;s still running. Try reading up on every TPB response to company C&D letters in their forums and it’s pure comedy.

I hope TPB previals. Any entity that deprives the Hollywood Left of money is A-OK in my book.

Because several people are talking about using such sites - this being a conservative forum I thought I would ask why conservatives would steal.

That’s true, but I have noticed they post under h33t in mini. One can say they’re pretty much a private tracker based on the registration process but they claim they’re not.

You can choose private or public..Their difference is on the private side, they filter out the bad IP’s that spawn bogus traffic and bad chunks.

Some/most entertainment file sharing may well be a violation of copyright.

Some say that posting and discussing news articles on FreeRepublic is a violation of copyright. Some say that public lending libraries are a violation of copyright. How do you feel about those alleged violations?

There was just a news article on FR about Dept. of Homeland Security canceling newspaper and magazine subscriptions because those were available to read on internal government websites.

BTW, I have never used Pirate Bay.

"What is conservative about stealing?"

So called "IP" IS different from physical property. Nothing was stolen in the physical sense. In fact, the use of the word "stolen" is inappropriate.

Well, Azureus has it’s own plug-in which replaces safepeer or peerguardian which does the job but people who use utorrent still prefer the SF/PG apps as a safeguard.
