Democrat Bill Ritter rode an anti-Republican sentiment into the governor's office in 2006, but a new poll suggests he might have a much harder time in his re-election bid.
In the survey of 1,050 likely Colorado voters, Ritter's disapproval ratings are higher than his approval ratings among all voters, including Hispanics and the most crucial bloc of all in Colorado politics: unaffiliated voters.
Ritter ... most likely will face one of two Grand Junction Republicans next year: former Congressman Scott McInnis or Senate Minority Leader Josh Penry. The poll shows McInnis beating Ritter, 48-41, and Ritter barely edging Penry, 40-42.
"Ritter is incredibly vulnerable at this point."
Ritter's approval rating is 41 percent, down from 49 percent in a PPP survey in mid-December. His disapproval rating now is 49 percent.
Among unaffiliated voters, his disapproval rating is 52 percent.
And 47 percent of Hispanic voters disapprove of his performance.

Is it possible that the liberal infection of Colorado will be healed?
Only if the influx of California and New York Libs stops.
What happened in Colorado could happen in Texas if we don't head it off.
Only if ACORN is not allowed to operate in CO, will a republican win any office there.
Sending the illegals back home would help.
From your lips to God's ear. I sure hope so. We need someone who will be able to get rid of sanctuary city policies for illegals and enforce the immigration laws, among other things.
Too bad we can not end this now
What about that beer guy. Isn’t he a Republican and will he run for Gov?
Coors seems done.
He ran a poor campaign .
The first thing Ritter did when he gained office was to unionize State workers. One of his next steps was to aid trial lawyers by dissolving frivolous lawsuit provisions. The Dems here are tripling our car registration fees/taxes. Our property taxes, although lower than many other states, are skyrocketing. We need to throw the bums out!
Then they screwed up the Oil & Gas Industry, causing layoffs in droves. If the turkeys go ahead and pass the no-cell-phone-calls in cars law, they'll piss off the entire western half of the state. Hopefully, that'll be enough to ensure their demise.
Thanks geo, may be good news.
Could we actually reclaim Colorado next year?
“Could we actually reclaim Colorado next year?”
If we run the right candidate.
What a pick up to bag the gov’s office and the U.S. senate seat. McInnis has a good lead here. Is the SoS office up as well?
Yes it is up and the AG (GOP) and Treasurer (rat) spots. I assume Ritter’s appointee will run for a full term as SoS.
So Ritter trails? That is excellent.
It’s be great to grab the legislature as well to control redistricting.
I think the cell phone while driving ban will tick off the Front Range also.
We had that in ‘02, but liberal rodent judges overturned our plans to make the 3rd-7th districts safe GOP and implemented their own plan to make them competitive. Now we hold just 2 of those 5.
“How do you explain the election of Mike Coffman and the reelection of Doug Lamborn last November?”
They represent overwhelmingly Republican districts.
