DEBKAfile's Iranian and intelligence sources disclose that Moscow warned Tehran Friday April 17 that Israel was planning to destroy all 140 fighter-bombers concentrated at the Mehr-Abad Air Force base for an air show over Tehran on Iran's Army Day the following day. The entire fleet was accordingly removed to remote bases and the display cancelled.
In the first week of April, Tehran announced it would stage its biggest air show ever to dramatize a ceremonial military parade in the capital on April 18. Iran would show the world that it is capable of fighting off an Israeli attack on its nuclear facilities. Instead only four aircraft flew over the saluting stand. Iranian media explained that the big show was cancelled due to "bad weather and poor visibility," when in fact Tehran basked in warm and sunny weather.
Moscow had informed the Iranians that its spy satellites and intelligence sources had picked up preparations at Israeli Air Force bases to destroy the 140 warplanes, the bulk of the Iranian air force, on the ground the night before the display, leaving its nuclear sites without aerial defense. A similar operation wiped out the entire Egyptian air fleet in the early hours of the 1967 war.
Russia called later and asked Iran if their refrigerator was running.
And now with zer0bama as CIC, I'm not sure about US anymore.
hhahahahaaa ok,, YOUR comment made my day. ROFLMAO
If this is true, Netanyahu is seething right now.
I predict Mossad will be busy this week.
My favorite avatar from another website is a Star of David with the words “SIX DAYS, BITCHES” emblazoned across it.
The Russians spoiled all the fun. I never liked ruskies.
Zero could have his own Bay of Pigs...
I’m sorry to say that Odumbo’s USA is now part of the evil. Israel is all alone in this. I just hope that the Usurper in Chief doesn’t order a shoot-down of the Israeli attack force.
Likely given the numbers of Russians in Israel.
It is Debka. Nothing is true. Wean yourself from it.
If only this came from anyone besides DEBKA...
Would that be a "lawful" order?
and (2) that there are effective spies for Russia/Iran within the IDF.
They don't necessarily have to be within the IDF. If the satellite pictures were there it would be a pretty clear warning. I don't know how visible the air fields are from the near the bases, but Israel is so small that I doubt they can afford miles of space between the fences and the runways. If so, it wouldn't be hard to see a lot of aircraft being prepped for a very big mission. Even keeping track of businesses around the base could show a rush - similar to keeping track of late night pizza deliveries to the Pentagon would show when something big is about to happen.
If the Iranian Air Force was destroyed on the ground the Russians could make money selling them new planes.
It's DEBKA. It's not true.
“One heck of an Air Show”, with Dean Wormer in the reviewing stand watching the IDF fly away and he says “I hate those guys”.
Would have been one hell of an airshow by the IAF....
The only safe place for an Iranian fighter is buried in the sand..ala Iraq. They sure won’t be safe on the ground or in the air.
More likely the Iranians canceled the air show when they realised they have 140 planes and only ten pilots capable of flying them.
>>>and (2) that there are effective spies for Russia/Iran within the IDF.
Probably so but such preparations would have been visible by spy satellite, watching the flight lines, bomb trains, etc. Adding two and two.
Wow. They have made some serious advances!
Can’t get a gun or missile lock on balsa!
Maybe they can get a quote on some RAF mosquitoes!
Come on. It's Debka. What are the odds of that?
That’s where Baghdad Bob is working...
Hmm... Israelis have payday loan outlets outside their bases
“that there are effective spies for Russia/Iran within the IDF”
My future county has lots of russian immigrants.
Inexpensive and stealthy too. Best of both worlds!!
Don't forget about the traitors who are now running the USA.
The WWII Mosquito would be more practical.
The basic facts seem to be true, if you google for “April 18 air show Iran.”
Several credible sources say that a massive air show was scheduled. And I can’t read Iranian, but one blog that links to the Iranian site reports that it says that the show was cancelled because of bad weather.
I don’t know what the weather in Iran was on the 18th, but maybe someone could check that.
I agree that Debka is unreliable, but sometimes they seem to hear inside rumors. So this is at least POSSIBLE.
Or, who knows, maybe it was Gates and Obama who spotted the Israeli preparations and warned Iran. I wouldn’t put it past them.
Planes has got to posses the ability to be built domestically.
“The story is obvious nonsense. The Russians would never warn the Iranians. Never.”
Russia gets a great deal of money from Iran on trade agreements.
“IDF pulled off a colossal joke”
Consider the intelligence gained by the IAF. Plant this story and make the Iranians bug out. If they didn’t already know where all these aircraft were based, they do now.
It takes a really cunning foe to come up with this kind of military strategy.
I heard next week, their heads of state will cram into a convertible limousine and parade around Tehran for a few hours.
The Iranians are know to “inflate” the number and type of aircraft that they have. In fact they post swiped web pictures of Israeli and even plastic models on their Air Forces web site.
What better way not to have show what they actually have. Blame it on Israel...
Do you have Sir Walter Raleigh in a can?
No, he is happy. Imagine if Russia warned Iran after the planes were in the air! If true, this is a big boon to Israel that the Russians have tentacles into Mossad or are using advanced electronic intercepts. Israel now has the time to eliminate these leaks, and Iran will be worse off when the real attack comes, as they will be deprived of Russian intel.
Israel gets one shot at this. They aren’t going to be able to destroy the Irainian air force and then strike at their leisure.
Any attack needs to be a combined mission to neutralize the anti-air while knocking out as much of the nuclear infrastructure as possible.
Bombing the air force without an integrated plan is like kicking a hornets’ nest.
Is this related to lubricant shortage in Iran lately?
Russian spy chief sacked by Medvedev
Apr 24, 2009 10:03 AM
MOSCOW President Dmitry Medvedev has dismissed the head of Russia’s powerful military intelligence service, the Kremlin said today.
The Kremlin said Medvedev had signed a decree to dismiss Valentin Korabelnikov, a 63-year-old spymaster at the helm of the military intelligence service since 1997. The Kremlin gave no reason for the dismissal.
Alexander Shlyakhturov was appointed as his replacement, it said.
Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU, is the country’s biggest spy agency, with agents all over the world. It is controlled by the military general staff.
I’d buy a ticket for that!
