The GOP: divorced from reality
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 24, 2009 | Bill Maher

Posted on 04/24/2009 8:43:22 AM PDT by Zakeet

The Republican base is behaving like a guy who just got dumped by his wife.

If conservatives don't want to be seen as bitter people who cling to their guns and religion and anti-immigrant sentiments, they should stop being bitter and clinging to their guns, religion and anti-immigrant sentiments.

It's been a week now, and I still don't know what those "tea bag" protests were about. I saw signs protesting abortion, illegal immigrants, the bank bailout and that gay guy who's going to win "American Idol." But it wasn't tax day that made them crazy; it was election day. Because that's when Republicans became what they fear most: a minority.

The conservative base is absolutely apoplectic because, because ... well, nobody knows. They're mad as hell, and they're not going to take it anymore. Even though they're not quite sure what "it" is. But they know they're fed up with "it," and that "it" has got to stop.

Here are the big issues for normal people: the war, the economy, the environment, mending fences with our enemies and allies, and the rule of law.

And here's the list of Republican obsessions since President Obama took office: that his birth certificate is supposedly fake, he uses a teleprompter too much, he bowed to a Saudi guy, Europeans like him, he gives inappropriate gifts, his wife shamelessly flaunts her upper arms, and he shook hands with Hugo Chavez and slipped him the nuclear launch codes.

Do these sound like the concerns of a healthy, vibrant political party?

It's sad what's happened to the Republicans. They used to be the party of the big tent; now they're the party of the sideshow attraction, a socially awkward group of mostly white people who speak a language only they understand. Like Trekkies, but paranoid.

“It’s been a week now, and I still don’t know what those “tea bag” protests were about.”

Well then, you must be pretty damn stupid, Bill - maybe you are as dumb as you look.

i have news for this idiot. i run into more obama voters daily that are sorry they voted for this man. they having very quickly learned that the check is not in the mail and it isn’t going to be. they are seeing more jobs lost...more pay cut and fewer low paying jobs on the market because employers now they can get away with it....they see their grocery and energy bills going up...gas has gone up despite oil prices remaining somewhat steady and all the while for the working man and woman what did they get...??...approx 9.00 a week in their paycheck. so if you have no clue as to what the teaparty’s are all about....stay tuned....

It takes a left-wing protest to see a truly breath taking variety of causes and complaints.

NO, it’s the L.A. Times that is divorced from reality, that refuses to accept the truth.

What would they define as a “healthy party”??? Perhaps one that supports abortion, flinging open the border, granting citizenship for the illegals, promotes gay marriage and kowtows to Obama and the socialists?

Nope, we don’t wanna be the “DemocratLite” Party!

We ARE the opposition, we ARE upset, and we WILL take back our country!

ENOUGH OF THE RINOS!!!
ENOUGH OF “REACHING ACROSS THE AISLE”!!!!
ENOUGH OF COMPROMISING OUR PRINCIPLES!!!!!

It’s time for REAL change, REAL conservatism and REAL leadership!

We conservatives haven’t lost our minds, on the contrary, we are thinking CLEARER than we ever have been before!

WE DECLARE THAT THE REPUBLICAN PARTY = CONSERVATISM and that the RINOs can all GET OUT!!!!! TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE!!!!

WHO’S WITH ME?????

Sadly, he is right about one thing: belief in limited gov. and personal responsibility IS a radical position these days.

...and all the while for the working man and woman what did they get...??...approx 9.00 a week in their paycheck.

And that will disappear and be replaced by a considerable increase for all but the least productive when the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010.

A fascist mind is a horrible thing. We conservatives don't project onto others, politically speaking, with such a a natural flare as fascists.

It’s all about winning and losing to them. They have NO concept of what this country means or what it was founded upon or what it takes to perpetuate it’s prosperity and good fortune.

Who’s divorced from reality, Bill???
