Condoleezza Rice dragged into torture memo row as Obama’s plan spins out of control
Times-UK ^ | April 24, 2009 | Tom Baldwin

Posted on 04/24/2009 12:30:30 PM PDT by Anti-Bubba182

A week has passed since President Obama set a train in motion with the publication of secret memos to justify harsh interrogations by the CIA, and the White House appears to have lost control over its ultimate destination.

Fresh disclosures of declassified documents on Wednesday implicated a dozen senior officials in the Bush Administration, including Condoleezza Rice, as having approved techniques such as waterboarding — simulated drowning widely regarded as torture — on terrorist suspects.

The previous evening a Senate Armed Services Committee report linked the decision to authorise the CIA’s programme with the abuse of detainees by the US military at prisons such as Abu Ghraib and Guantánamo Bay.

On the Left, human rights groups — at home and abroad — are clamouring for criminal prosecutions of those involved in designing or implementing the policy. In Congress, many top Democrats are vocally demanding the establishment of a truth commission even though an inquiry by the Senate Intelligence Committee is already under way.

There is also pressure from the Right with Dick Cheney, the former Vice-President, calling for the release of other secret documents that he claims will prove the interrogations helped to save innocent lives. He clearly intends to blame Mr Obama if there is another terrorist attack on America, saying: “The threat is there, it’s very real and it’s continuing. And what the Obama people are doing, in effect, is saying, ‘Well, we don’t need those tough policies that we had’.”.........."

I bet they do not lean on Condi very hard, but some in Congress are so radical I could be wrong. It would be a dumb move.

Dumb move. Cheney, Condi, and Bush were not dummies in politics.

Like releasing the memos in the first place was smart?

The quid-pro-quo is going to be so sweet if, because of Zer0’s appesement policies, the USA gets hit again. If the next president is Republican and has a Pub controlled congress, seeing Zer0 and his band of merry traitors drug through this is going to be popcorn time sure enough. He will have set the precedent.

Condi should volunteer to go on Oprah’s show and be waterboarded. Would be a very effective way of telling President Obama and his team to STFU about this issue. She should not speak — just be waterboarded — better not to be quotable on this one.

I think the Dims' initial goal was to take out some very bright conservative judges and lawyers. OLC is very prestigious and gets the best and brightest.

But this thing is spinning out of control very fast. These scumbags have no idea what they just started.

"She probably voted for Barry.

I'm absolutely convinced of it. She was certainly willing to admit who she voted for in the previous 7 presidential contests, but she would say who she voted for in the last; Very damning IMHO.

It’s hard to control history.

Historically, leftists always murder their opponents. And there are too many that seek to follow this path for anyone in power to control.

They’ll also go after Rumsfeld, England, Gen. Myers, Gen. Pace, & ADM Giambastiani.

This is a Civil War.

The facist regime has come in and all who were in the past regime are being executed so they can not come back to power.

Just like Cuba, Venzuela, and other banana republics.

Watch her Charlie Rose interview and then check back with me with another smart-ass answer. Incidentally, I hear Condi is looking for someone to run her fan club, you sound like a great candidate.

Yep, this is now out of Zero's hands. There will be show trials, probably before congressional committees.

Frankly, I expect blowback on this. Republicans will finally find their balls and will go to war. Independents who The Messiah tricked into voting for him when he lied and claimed to be a moderate will be appalled that people are being put on trial for doing what they thought was right to protect the country from another 9-11.

I've been expecting Zero's poll numbers to slide into the danger zone for him in a couple of years. This could expedite that by a lot. It won't sit well that Mr. Unity instead of setting a new tone in Washington has escalated partisanship to the level of nuclear war.

On the Left, human rights groups — at home and abroad — are clamouring for criminal prosecutions of those involved in designing or implementing the policy.

Why don't these groups clamour for the apprehension/prosecution of the butchers that started this thing in the first place. Until they do, tell them to pound sand. After they do, tell them to stick it. We'll do whatever it takes to keep Americans safe - including alleged torture and CIA kidnappings/killings.

The Donks smell blood because the GOP defense has been pretty milquetoast.

Wouldn't it be great if we had any kind of justification that it was a "rope-a-dope?"

Cheney, I could see pulling a rope-a-dope, but not the rest of these wimps.

You keep saying that but when you voted for all those Democrats, the number of Republicans in Congress declined, and due to the Obama effect, the "newsies" simply don't ask our guys their opinion.

This country is in deep trouble now that Obama has allowed his agents in Pakistan to give up to the Taliban.

Before it's over America is going to look a lot different.

Bush could of stopped all this with a blanket pardon. He was so politically astute to believe the dems would not go after his administration and perhaps even him. You lay with snakes, you get bit.

I really can't get to worked up over what the Obama Marxist internationalists want to do to the Republican corporate internationalists. But, when they start with real torture on the middleclass, we can repay the favor with guillotines or the like.
