On the contrary. While I agree that too many bishops remained silent, a large number of them are now speaking out and taking a firm stand, as evidenced by the 47 bishops who have criticized the president of NDU for inviting Obama to address the commencement class. Alumnae are withholding donations, many Catholic parents who had planned to send their children to that university, are now looking to other institutions. There is now a polarization amongst US Catholics as they distinguish themselves as either cultural Catholics or practicing Catholics.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m going to my group with this!!!!!
Oh my Goodness, thanks!!!!!!
I'm guessing that the Bishops not wanting their flock spending eternity in hell is not what this writer had in mind.
I wonder what Sharia Muslim clerics would do if one of their flock by word and deed mocked their religious tenets and were planning to take a high level government position? Catholic Shepherds are expected to turn a blind eye when their flock go astray. All Ms. Sebelius has to do is to go Episcopalian, then she can serve two masters.
Centisimus Anno by JP the Great is mostly likely your best bet. It applies to today and addresses the Church’s approach, which is distributism. Basically, capitalism guided by morality.
and that is the erroneous legal proposition that something that is legally permitted, is required to be permitted by everyone.
Yet, we know, just taking smoking cigarettes as an example, that that argument is fallacious in the American context. The radical legal argument says:
1. since abortion is a permissible medical procedure, any and every medical facility is required to perform them if they are capable;
2. since "gay" relationships are not a legal offense, the law, and education, are required to promote them.
In both cases, the true meanings of liberty, freedom of conscience, true "tolerance" and even a "diverse" society are denied by those legal ideas.
Notice that in both cases, the liberal view attempts to criminalize the opposing view, and the conservative view does not.
One interesting thing here is that, in the US and probably elsewhere, left-wing Catholics have for a whole generation so dominated the conversation, and so equated socialism with Catholic social teaching, that when a compendium of actual Catholic documentary sources gets published, they complain that it's somehow "infected" with capitalist propaganda!
Fr. Robert Sirico of The Acton Institute and Michael Novak of The American Emterprise Institute have done a lot of good writing on the positive virtues of a free enterprise system from a Catholic point of view.
**[Catholics Bishops Told To Shut-Up!]**
By whom?
Best Vatican reference that is anti-socialism and pro-capitalism:
JPII’s Centesimus Annus (approx 1990) (100 year update on Rerum Novarum)
Check out paragraph 48 in which he CONDEMNS the welfare state for essentially promoting LAZINESS.
This is one bit of Catholic theology that the Leftists brush under the rug.
