New U.S. swine flu cases spread pandemic fears (2 in KS, 8 in NYC)

As Mexico hunkers down, 2 cases found in Kansas and 8 likely in NYC

Worries that the new swine flu strain that has killed as many as 68 people and sickened more than 1,000 across Mexico has “pandemic potential” increased with the announcement that the virus has spread to Kansas and likely to New York City.

On Saturday, two new cases were confirmed in Kansas — the first U.S. cases outside of California or Texas. And New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Frieden said tests showed that eight New York schoolchildren had a type A influenza virus that was "probable" swine flu.

Samples have been sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further testing to see if they are indeed the unusual H1N1 strain of swine flu. The students showed only mild flu symptoms and are feeling better.

"What is concerning about this is that it is likely swine flu and second that it is spreading person to person," Frieden said. He added, "We have seen no increase citywide in flu-like cases."

About 100 students at a school in the New York City borough of Queens became sick last week, prompting the tests.

The Kansas cases involved two adults living in the same house; one is still ill and the other is recovering. One of the patients recently traveled to Mexico, flying in and out of Wichita.

“Boy, this disease has everyone in the media in a frenzy.

It makes you think how much the banks are stealing from us right at this moment.

Oh wait . . . “

Somethings are actually for real, and not a government conspiracy to divert our attention.
People better pay attention to this one. Not panic; but pay attention. A lot of knowledgeable people seem pretty sobered by this.
Human history is full of disease outbreaks that kill large numbers of people.
It will happen again. This may be it, or we may have forgotten about it in 2 weeks.

Much to do about nothing.........I'd prefer to hear the facts on the folks who did die from this flu. Were they old? Were they infirm? Were they susceptible to such a virus? were their immune systems weakened for some reason?

Too much sensationalism in the reporting and not enough background facts...........

Drudge is reporting that while Obama was in Mexico, he was greeted by a man who died (correction) several days later from flu like symptoms. Oh my!

It's possible Obama was infected. He may have to run the country wearing a space suit or else become The President in the Plastic Bubble

I'm just going to guess it was some fellow in Iowa who will be in there applying for a marriage license under the new rules come this Monday morning.

Boy are those folks going to regret selecting that particular bunch of judges.

Could this be Zero's Reichstag Fire? With civil liberties suspended, the government instituted mass arrests of Communists, including all of the Communist parliamentary delegates. With them gone, and their seats empty, the Nazis went from being a plurality party to the majority; subsequent elections confirmed this position and thus allowed Hitler to consolidate his power.

Yes, I know Zero doesn't need to consolidate his power, but he does need to pound the silver steak through the heart of what is left of the GOP and especially he needs to knock out conservatism.

They were ages 25-45.

Are you referring to the deaths in Mexico? If so, I am very sceptical about the reporting.......... Nevertheless, medical facilities are much better here in the U.S. so I am confident that this is yet another overblown "non crisis" that the MSM is desperately trying to pass on as critical in order to create news.

I might be wrong, only time will tell.........

I'm not changing my lifestyle one bit.

From another post regarding the age thing-

The disease is respiratory, and has one strong similarity to the 1918 Spanish Flu: “The majority were young adults between 25 and 45 years old,” said one official under the condition of anonymity. Since, young and healthy people with strong immune systems are the most likely to succumb, this might indicate that the biggest killer is a cytokene storm—a collapse caused by the human immune system’s over-reaction to a pathogen.

If you push a shopping cart, pump your own gas, or open doors in public buildings by grabbing the handle, I hope your lifestyle includes washing your hands with GermX frequently.

The over reaction was so strong in some that the immune system continued to attack their body days after they died!

I remember the pandemic panic over bird flu and now pandemic panic over swine flu.....

At this point I am not going to get my underwear in a bunch over yet another nature flu.

I don’t mean to sound so flippant but what can we do? I guess vaccines are a good idea but they may not work....so wash hands eat your veggies and pray for the ill and families of those lost......

Yeah, same here. I am out of chicken little strikes with my husband too.

Pretty sure he'll divorce me if I go on another pandemic scare.

The MSM is going crazy with this story. They already have whole populations sick or dead. Questions are being asked about bio=attack from Middle East, or some right wing extremist group in the US. Personally I think Soros paid for the research and virus was delivered by MoveOn.org agents assigned to the White House. It won't take long for “O” to ride to the rescue with more taxpayers dollars to save the world from itself. Previous statement is satire.

A childhood ditty from 1918...

I had a little bird.
It’s name was Enza.
I opened up the window.
And in flew Enza.

(in-flu-enza)

Freepmail me your address and I'll send you a month supply of masks and surgical gloves..............LOL!

Oh, as an added precaution, call your boss and ask for an indefinite leave of absence under the emergency leave act. I'll vouch for your absence. I'll even give you a call when the "all clear" siren sounds.........
