Of course you’re correct. Riding a bus in Mexico is my definition of hell. Imagine never getting off. THAT will keep me away from sin if nothing else will.

It may be that the bug only seems more deadly in Mexico. A case only makes it onto the statistics if it gets reported.
In Mexico, it may be that non-severe cases of flu never get seen by doctors.
If the doctors in Mexico only see the cases where the patient is severely hit, then of course their numbers will be different from the US, where people are more likely to visit their doctors.

Bed rest and hydration are about all that can be done until you heal yourself. And stay in bed several days after you start feeling better. Lots of flu victims died exerting themselves after feeling better back in 1918. This probably increases the death rate in countries where the practice is if you don't show up for work, then you don't get paid. People go back to work as soon as they feel able to walk.
