Doctors in America are advising worried patients to buy painters’ masks as a precaution against the global outbreak of swine flu that appears to have spread from Mexico to the United States, New Zealand and possibly Europe.
With the worldwide death toll standing at about 81 and with about 1,300 people infected, authorities across the globe are torn between the desire to slow down a potential flu pandemic and the need to avoid bringing major cities on every continent to an economic standstill.
As of today, the US was still allowing people to cross the border from Mexico – where it is thought the swine flu emerged last week – although customs officials at the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa border crossings were given protective masks. It is thought that eight people in US border towns have gone down with swine flu, and tonight Mayor Michael Bloomberg said that a further eight cases have been confirmed among students in New York.

Even if it is a full blown pandemic, with millions of people dying they would not close the border. Why? Because it is “racist”. And not appearing racist is more important than the health, safety, and security of American citizens. [BTW, citizen is a quasi-racist term too]
If this is a full blown epidemic, rest assured Mr. Napaliano will order the arrest of veterans and other right wing extremists. After all, they COULD be dangerous. Infected Mexicans streaming across the border are okay, though.
I just listened to a presser with the Canadian Minister of Health. She sounded as scared as someone who's been told they have a serious disease.
Thanks for the report. It appears that the American ‘officials’ just don’t give a crap! They are doing nothing that should be done and some reports are saying that ‘US Officials’ knew about this virus ‘before last week-end’!
We won’t ever get the truth out of them though and the media in America will ask nothing other than soft balled questions designed to give them an out at every turn.
I haven’t slept well since Zero was sworn in and this is a perfect example of why.

Evidently the CDC under the Obama reign of terror doesn't realize the skin is the largest organ in the body. A virus can enter any pore.
The nasal passages just give it easier access to the body, unless of course, your a Mexican at a tea bag party with Barney Frank.

It might be effective to the extent of blocking droplets if someone sneezes or coughs on you, and it will keep you from inadvertently touching your nose or mouth after coming in contact with an infected surface.

Just do a search of “John Brennan” and the passport breach during the campaign.
Just last week he was a deputy intell advisor to Obama and today he spoke during the presser as Director of the CDC.
“Call me crazy but I bet this bio-terrorism has been in the works since the Bush administration when we were all warned in 2006.”
One does wonder. It’s certainly possible and it would be tailor made for the weaknesses of our country at the moment.
It’s also telling that the Director of HOMELAND SECURITY has taken charge of this crisis. It this is bioterrorism, that would be the correct department to deal with this.

Was there any funds set aside for swine flu masks in the massive PORKULUS BILLS?
Anything that causes a barrier between you, the potential host, and the person with the illness is going to be effective to some extent. The other way the mask works is that if you touch an object that has the virus, you are less likely to then directly touch your mouth, nose, etc., which often provides easy entry.
There is a lot of wisdom in wearing a mask. Why people on here don’t understand it only shows me they have not done some basic study on infectious disease.
Get San Fran Nan Peloser a mask and stop scaring the children. Do it for the children.

If anyone came into my store/bank wearing a mask, that person would be shot on sight.
