A plane, that appears to be a commercial jet tailed by fighter jets, is a "pre-planned" military flight taking photos of the Statue of Liberty, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Reports indicate it may be Air Force One.
"It is pre-planned, pre-coordinated with everyone involved," said FAA spokesman Jim Peters. "It's a military flight over New York to take photos."
Peters, who stressed it is not an emergency, said the flight is circling the Statue of Liberty and New York City to take photos.
Peters said city officials as well as state government agencies in New York and New Jersey were briefed on the flight in advance.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A photo opportunity involving President Barack Obama’s backup plane flying over the Statue of Liberty created a stir in New York City on Monday, but authorities said it was only an authorized exercise.
Obama was not on board.
“Please be advised the U.S. Air Force conducted an authorized photo flyover of the downtown Manhattan area this morning,” the New York Police Department advised local businesses in an e-mail alert.

I just saw a photo of the plane with the fighter jet behind it, I really don’t believe this explanation one bit.

It feels like Dear Leader is mocking us. After 9/11, this was thoughtless, at best.
This is astounding. To fly a low flying jet over the Hudson just to get pictures, and then not warn everyone on the ground in advance? Does anyone in this administration even remember 9/11 ? Absolutely tone deaf. Wow.
And the Carbon Foot Print is?
The only planes I know of in the USAF inventory that are painted like that are either the two VC-25s that are used as Air Force One, or the E-4 airborne command posts. More than likely, it’s a VC-25.
Which begs a few questions. Why the hell do you take a 747 out low over New York for a photo op, and was the TOTUS onboard?

Very wierd. First, why do they need pictures? Second, why do they need pictures taken from one of the AF-1 jets, and not some other jet? Third, why didn’t they let people know they would be doing this?
That's why they released the "torture" memos and photos. When the next strike comes, they can blame it on Bush (we brought it on ourselves, more liberal BS canards, etc.).

Yeah, right. Professional photogs everywhere much prefer a big, lumbering passenger jet making multiple passes in order to get just the right shot, to a nimble helicopter that can hover in place, for photo shoots.

Well, 0bama is such a pompous sort, that this actually makes sense in a sort of way. His minions will photoshop a smiling and waving Bambi in the AF1 window with the statue of liberty in the background. Then I think, couldn’t they photoshop the whole thing. What is this really about?
There is nothing odd about this.
I have seen many patriotic photos of planes flying with The Statue of Liberty below them.
The Thunderbirds and Blue Angels do it, American aircraft manufacturers do it, all sorts of other organizations do it.
The Flyby was authorized and planned, no one did anything wrong, this story is about the nervousness of New Yorkers, which is hardly surprising since 0bama dismantled our defenses against terrorism.
Perhaps they shouldn’t have voted him in.
