On her radio show of April 24, Dr. Laura Schlessinger engaged a caller on the subject of priestly sexual abuse. Dr. Laura said she was stunned that the penalties for abuse were not more severe. She continued by saying, So because of that I no longer, you have not heard me in all these years tell anybody to send their kids to Catholic school, where in the past I did that all the time.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented as follows:
I will not lose faith in Dr. Laura simply because she is not up to speed on this issue, but I cannot sit back and indulge her cluelessness. Quite frankly, as anyone who has read the John Jay Reports on this subject knows, the vast majority of abuse took place between the mid-1960s and the mid-1980s, at the height of the sexual revolution. The bill may have come due in 2002the year the Boston Globe exposed the Boston Archdiocese as the epicenter of the problembut this hardly justifies the conclusion that nothing has been done to correct the situation in recent times.
Indeed, I would challenge Dr. Laura to name a single institutionprivate or publicthat has instituted a zero tolerance policy, save for the Catholic Church. Every staff person and volunteer who works for the Church has had to undergo the most rigorous training seminars on the subject of the sexual abuse of minors, something unmatched by any other organization. Indeed, if Dr. Laura wants to know which institution is responsible for the lions share of this problem today, she needs to take a serious look at the public schools. And then she might investigate why so little reform has been instituted. I can save her the timeits called the teachers unions.
Heres the number of credible accusations made against the over 40,000 priests in the last few years: 2008 (10); 2007 (4); 2006 (14); 2005 (9).
Dr. Lauras moral compass remains one of the finest indices of sanity in the nation. Indeed, we are big fans of hers. But she does need to correct the record.
What bull. Dentists, Psychologists, even Chiropractors are called Doctor. The only group with legitimate Doctor Degrees who are not called doctor are Attorneys with Juris Doctor Degrees.
I think Schlesinger will be apologizing for this in a future show. Whoever, the Catholic Church would do a world of good to winnow the fags from its ranks.

Funny.
I am nearly Fifty years old and I have heard PHD’s called doctor for all of my life.
Did it ever occur to you to perhaps read an actual diploma and see what that letter D stands for? You might do with some education yourself.
There were Zero tolerance poliocies for pedophelia at most institutions up until the gay sexual revolution got going in the 1970s. Most small churches are still that way.
If you aren’t going to research before posting your screed, at least talk to some older people about things before you claim they do not and never have existed.
I haven't listened to Dr Laura in years, but I think we can assume that she hasn't become a public school cheerleader because she no longer recommends Catholic schools.
And the rate of abuses by the Nazis were exceeded by those of Stalin, Whos abuses were exceeded by those of Mao.
Where did you come up with the idea that one makes the other okay?
“Nobody is allowed to use ‘Doctor’ unless they are a medical doctor or ... a professor in the psychological field with a clinical license.”
This is pure “BS”. Sorry to be blunt, but you’re wrong, and should correct your statement.
Anyone, with a PhD can use the term “Doctor” at the front of their name. This business of saying that only MD’s or clinical psychologists can represent themselves as a doctor is just flat incorrect. Consider, a university that had 1000 PhD’s employed (that’s high, but it makes the numbers easier). Suppose that there are only 10 clinical psychologists in the psych department. Does this mean that the other 990 PhD’s are prohibited by state law from calling themselves Doctor?
You see my point.
Now representing yourself as an MD when you have an honorary doctorate from Notre Dame? That is quite a different thing and I suspect that is more along the lines of what you are trying to say. If you had said something like that, I would certainly agree.
nooooooooooo...she has used her “dr” like she has some kind of academic expertise in what she is doing; WHICH SHE DOES NOT!
Where did you come up with the idea that that was being done, public school?
I don’t listen to her often, but I do listen to Dr. Laura enough to know that she also recommends taking your kids out of the failing public school system(which we had already done)...so no, she’s not endorsing the public schools.
I'm talking about medicine and/or behavioral science not those who have a doctorate in law, education or whatever else and Schlessinger has been "playing" her audience like she is some kind of "educated professional" in the field of behavioral science WHICH SHE IS NOT!..................gezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
What is wrong with parents who take the issue to a priest or bishop instead of to the police?
PhDs had the title of doctor well before any formal MD program was ever instituted. In medical schools everywhere, the PhDs on the faculty are typically held in more respect, even by the MDs in the program. An established senior PhD pretty much has the final word when it comes to being an authority on a subject.
I dislike her style and never listen to her except out of an occasional curiosity. I think she shoots from the hip some times and I think she is rude. But that is another matter.
Tell that to Kelly. :-)
I’ve lost all respect for “Dr. Laura”. She used to give intelligent advice and commentary. But all I’ve heard for years on the 2 minute blurbs every morning at 6:50 AM is caustic crap and lousy advice.
A situation where I agree with her commentary is unfortunately extremely rare.
Sounds like she blew it again.
But since you didn't get it the first or the second time...here it is again

Now if you still don't understand, then I can't help you!LOL
As soon as you say, “California Board of ...” You need to stop reading. You immediately know you are encountering a group on clueless, self serving idiots.
I live in California, incidentally.
