The kid will carry this with him for a long time. And so the perps get a year or so of grief over it. They’ll be out there screwing some other kid over while this other kid is still waking up in cold sweats. Can’t tell you how that gripes me.

They both ended up dropping out of school, although they were at the top of their class and neither continued formal education, although they got their GEDs.
This happened over a decade ago, and they reconnected recently and talked about the devastating effect this had on their lives.
Both eventually went on to live fulfilling lives, as a result of the strength of their families. They just took a different path.
