The Zodiac killer, who taunted and terrified Bay Area residents in the late 1960s with cryptic letters and a trail of victims, has been identified, according to a group claiming to have cracked the case that has baffled police for decades.
The killer is not one of the handful of men repeatedly linked to the 40-year-old crime spree, according to the group, which plans to announce its findings today.

I don’t know, but unless they have pretty good evidence the person who they name will have a very happy lawyer filing the slander or libel lawsuit tomorrow.
“Zodiac killers name to be revealed”
It was announced this morning. It’s Dick Cheney!
” the person who they name will have a very happy lawyer “
I doubt it. The case is over 40 years old. The killer is probably already dead.
I wonder if they also have Bigfoot hidden away in a freezer.....
Either that, or the families of some Zodiac victims’ lawyers - will be filing multi-million dollar wrongful death suits.
If the evidence is compelling, which side is more likely to find an understanding jury?
From the article: "Lozzi has said that all evidence his group has collected has been turned over to the FBI."
Of course there's no guarantee that act in itself is not part of a media stunt, but it does sound as though they may have some decent evidence and are looking to have it further evaluated and validated.

"Mind your own #$%^ business!"
Richard Jewell?
I swear I watched one of those American Justice programs and they already knew who the Zodiac Killer was and did a whole show about him. Hmmmmm, shows how bad my memory is.
One of the stories I heard was that the authorities knew who he was years ago and he was linked to an important person in SF so they sat on it.
Let me guess... Leo?

Yes. It's true.
TV Newscaster: Our top story tonight, there has been a break in the case. Police have just released a photo of the suspect. He is known only as “Kramer”.
LOL!
Tobias Lehigh Nagy?

Oh, I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question:
I’m from Missouri. They’ll have to show me. It’ll probably be another Tarbox fiasco. But maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
We watched a TV show a few months ago that posited that the killer was a man who had been questioned, but against whom they didn't have enough evidence to bring charges at the time. I think he had died in the last few years.
What did they say? The press conference should have started 15 minutes ago.
I’ve been streaming local radio (KCBS) here but nothing. Too busy with Obama’s First 100 Days.
Still waiting.
I can’t seem to get KGO-radio online. Since that station was front and center during the killings, I figured they’d have something.
Anyone else finding it?
“According to today’s press conference, the Zodiac Killer was some guy named Guy Ward Hendrickson. Whatever. But here’s where it gets good: Hendrickson allegedly took his daughter, Deborah Perez, along with him for the murders.
Perez spoke at today’s press conference. Here are just a few of the things she claims.
During the shooting deaths, he told her the gun shots were firecrackers.
She stamped the envelopes containing the cryptic letters sent out to local media.
She embroidered the mask he wore while committing his notorious acts.
During a routine police stop, he stuck his gun in the back of her pants. This happened just after the 4th of July killings.
She also said he killed between 30 and 40 people.
He apologized on his deathbed.
The murders seemed to be a “special activity” between her and her dad.
Allegedly.
But here’s the rub, Perez says she wrote some of the letters herself and that she saw a composite on America’s Most Wanted in 2007 of her father as the Zodiac Killer, and began to remember it all. So, you know, she may be delusional in addition to being somewhat sanity-estranged.”
