Texas Districts Close Because Of Swine Flu - New Braunfels, Comal Districts Shut Down

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas -- School districts in Texas near San Antonio have begun to shut down because of fears of swine flu, San Antonio's KSAT-TV reported.

Both the Comal and New Braunfels independent school districts announced on their respective Web sites and phone system they will close their campuses.

The closures will last until May 11. The decision includes all private schools in the county, as well as any after-school or extra-curricular activities.

Parents in the area also reported that day care facilities were also shutting down.

The announcement for the Comal ISD came after the recommendation of the Comal County Health Department, according to the district's Web site. The decision came after a multiagency meeting, according to the New Braunfels ISD phone message.

"All of this is being done with an abundance of caution," said superintendent Mike Smith in a news release. "We will support the recommendation of the county health department."

Smith said the district would delay standardized testing because of the closures.

All district professional staff were being asked to be available to report to work if needed, while hourly employees were asked to report to work Wednesday to assist with sanitizing the campuses, according to the news release.

I understand there has been a run on hand sanitizers, and other items necessary to avoid or treat the current outbreak.

I bet, in other school districts across Texas, kids are looking for pigs to kiss so they can miss school!

Are the “chilrun” going to be safer while sequestered at home or, more than likely, running around the neighborhood unsupervised (since Mom and Dad - if there is one - are working)? I’ll remember swine flu as I go out to my favorite Mexican food restaurant in San Angelo (TX) for the finest in South of the Border cuisine.

Shame we don’t have a way to contain the spread of the disease from its point of origin ... like a big “wall” or something ...

Last time I was in Monterrey, I bumped into some representatives of New Braunsfels ISD. They were looking to recruit Mexican nationals to teach ESL classes in Texas.

pffft...

The open borders crowd will insist that stopping tens of thousands of potentially infected people from entering the U.S. daily at these legal points of entry from Mexico, won't do any good.

They are lying.

Ask them, what is more likely to cause this thing to spread more...500 infected people already here, or 20,000 potential carriers, entering every single day from Mexico?

Ask them, would American rather try to manage 500 sick and ill, or 20,000 potentially sick and ill crossing in every single day from Mexico?

Have there been more documented cases or are they just doing this out of fear?

Just what I was thinking.

There is money to be made somehow. I can’t put my finger on where but there is money to be made.

This whole thing is getting downright suspicious.

sorry but this swine flu ist the most over hyped story of the year. what we have now? 8 official confirmed deaths because of this flu? How many died today (willingly ingnored by the media) because of the “regular” flu strains
which are around? 500? 1000 worldwide? because the “normal” flu kills between 250.000 -500.000 people every year worldwide and nobody seems to care.
