Top 15 Wealthiest Senators (From February 22nd, 2008)
About Politics ^ | February 22nd, 2008

Who are the richest senators of the 110th congress? Names like Rockefeller and Clinton weren’t surprising but a few others were.

What was a little surprising is the fact that the top 4 wealthiest senators are Democrats. And I thought the Republicans were the “rich, white guys”.

We took the top 15 and listed their minimum and maximum net worth. We listed the Minimum Net Worth and a Maximum Net Worth because the disclosure forms that they are required to file don’t require exact amounts.

1 Herb Kohl (D-Wis) $219,098,029 $234,549,004

2 John Kerry (D-Mass) $165,741,511 $235,262,100

3 Jay Rockefeller (D-WVa) $78,150,023 $101,579,003

4 Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) $43,341,462 $98,630,021

5 Lincoln D. Chafee (R-RI) $41,153,105 $64,096,019

6 Frank R. Lautenberg (D-NJ) $38,198,170 $90,733,019

7 John McCain (R-Ariz) $20,571,136 $32,043,011

8 Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass) $19,189,049 $93,043,004

9 Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) $13,508,152 $49,829,007

10 Gordon H. Smith (R-Ore) $12,994,660 $62,261,641

11 Bill Frist (R-Tenn) $11,667,041 $41,735,006

12 Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn) $11,542,483 $43,639,427

13 Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) $11,488,475 $47,410,001

14 Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) $10,080,005 $50,200,000

15 Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) $8,780,208 $37,243,00

That list needs to be updated, a few years old.

I’d say the top 6 are Democrats, considering that Lincoln Chaffe is a RINO.

And I thought the Republicans were the “rich, white guys”.

Then you haven't been paying attention.

I saw a report a few years ago where out of the top 25 richest members of the U.S. House, all 25 were Democrats.

Personally I'd rather know how long they have been on the "public dole"...and what their income was BEFORE they became High Rollers in Gob'ment......

IMO, the amt. of money one has...doesn't mean one doesn't know what it's like to be middle-class.

But I'd gather from people I speak with...that are honest businessmen and women...that have done well...Want nothing to do with running for any type of political office. Period.

Something stinks here - the 110th Congress covers 2007-09 and Lincoln Chaffee lost his legacy Rhode Island Senate seat in the preceding election. Like the other respondents, I think that someone has mixed data and dates.

For what, getting injured from an egg shell fragment?

It seems this is the most up to date list available. I think it will be updated this coming September.

Richest Members Of Congress

Roll Call Group released its annual list of the 50 Richest Members of Congress for 2008. Crafted by Roll Call’s editorial investigative unit, this list is created by poring over the financial disclosure forms of every Member of Congress to determine who has the most wealth. In addition to reviewing the top 50 and their various assets and liabilities, the report also examines the loopholes in the filing requirements that allow lawmakers to provide vague information.

Looks like they update every September.

My guess is it will be 80% Dem now that they are 60% of the Senate.
