Very well written. 1000 reasons to drop the bombs. No really good ones not to.
A pity the libs will never read it. Too many words, not enough pictures.
Jon Stewart has no honor, integrity, or credibility. The biggest decision he has to make is what color make-up looks best for the camera and how many hairs he needs plucked from his eyebrows. He is as worthless a turd as there is.
What he is doing is spitting in the eye of every Pacific Theater veteran who would have died in the protracted battle the Japanese were willing to wage.
Jon Stewart is an arrogant ASSHOLE.
Sir, you are indeed a living legend. Thank you for your input.
LOL! There is more than one meaning in there.
God Bless your dad and your family Emmett. I once read an article that Margaret Truman said that for years and years after her dad passed on that she was still being thanked by the children and grandchildren of those soldiers like your dad who were awaiting orders to invade. She was always touched by these gestures. Stewart is a fool.
Thanks President Truman April 30, 2009 - 18:42 ET by vanbill
64 years ago I was a young man--a Marine--who was fighting on Okinawa. My squad was kia/mia in just a few days of fighting--fighting that still torments my dreams all these years latter. At the end of the battle--I saw Japanese civilians jump to their deaths rather then risk surrender to us. All of us who survived Iwo and Okinawa knew we were living on borrowed time if we had to invade the home Islands of Japan. President Truman saved our lives by dropping the bomb. All of us who would have been in the assault boats in the fall of 1945 were spared an early death by the wisdom of Harry S.Truman .I was able to come home-go to school--make something of myself--marry a woman I loved from the second we met, till the day she left this life--have a family that I could not love more or be prouder of.I've lived long enough to comb grey hair--and all thanks to President Truman--God rest his soul.
Jon Stewart never spent a second in an assault boat, never saw what a well placed Jap 60 mm could do to a pal, never crossed open ground under fire to save a pal--in short he never put his life on the line--President Truman did--and by doing so he saved my life and untold millions of other lives. War criminal--how the hell would a self absorbed little schmuck like Stewart know the first thing about war.
Not quite. It took nearly six days for Japan to throw in the towel after Nagasaki and the largest air raid of the war took place on the night of 14 August 1945, before the Japanese officially surrendered.
Truman saved not only millions of allied lives -- he saved even more millions of Japanese lives.
Stewart is an utter ignorant fool.
Jon Stewart needs to be punished for the lies he has written. The Truman Presidential Trust should sue him.
My dad was the intelligence officer for the 509th composite bomb group and worked with the crews of the Enola Gay and Bocks car. He had some interesting war stories when he returned home
Jon Stewart was born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz in New York City to a Jewish family and grew up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where he attended Lawrence High School. His mother, Marian, is an educational consultant and teacher, and his father, Donald Leibowitz, is a physics professor at The College of New Jersey. At some point during Jon’s childhood, the couple divorced. Stewart was a member of the school band as a French horn player. Stewart has said that he was subjected to bullying for being a Jewish kid. He describes himself in high school as “very into Eugene Debs and a bit of a leftist.” He graduated from Lawrence High School third in his class and was voted “Best Sense of Humor.”
Stewart attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, majoring in psychology and playing on the men’s soccer team. An award titled the “Leibo” is now given out annually in honor of Stewart to the member of the men’s soccer team who experiences the most personal growth and provides the most laughs for his teammates. Stewart claims he was “miserable” in college.
After graduating from William and Mary in 1984, Stewart held numerous jobs, including: contingency planner for the New Jersey Department of Human Services, contract administrator for City University of New York, puppeteer for children with disabilities, construction worker, caterer, busboy, shelf stocker at Woolworth’s, assistant soccer coach at a high school, and bartender at a local blue-collar bar, the Franklin Corner Tavern.
(IMO any cab-driver is more entitled to an audience and an opinion, than this fraud, who masquerades as an entertainer.)
I am thankful your dad had a child to speak of his legacy on FR. I could only imagine what the art of intel was in 1944-45. Godspeed to your family and thank you for sharing.
(I’ll bet it was quite captivating to hear first hand.) :^)
Poor, poor John. I an afraid that his life is about to becem much more difficult.
Soon genuine patriotism will become a new awareness , and what willl poor John do then, immigrate to Norway or some other socialist state?
The world was full of these idjits prior to WWII, in the late 20s and in the 1930s. Now we are in a similar cycle of history. And when war came to America, they all disappeared for about 20years, only to re-emerge later as little commies who tried to take away the freedoms the people earned by defeating fascism abroad during WWII, They failed thanks to Senator Eugene Mccarthy, a wrongfully demonized man and one much loved by Anne Coulter who wrote of his worth to America.
And it has taken the US left another 35 years to make another try to become fascists and take away America’s freedoms. Oh Americans are giving them plenty of rope, and when the time comes they will be pulled up so short that their legs will fly off the ground. They will be gone, a distant memory of idiotic Utopianism. Perhaps this time we will put them to bed for good. One can hope.
Jon Stewart is at least Jewish by birth. He would not be speaking German nor Japanese. His parents would have been slaughtered and therefore never have been born.
The problem is that as far as leftists are concerened, history is at odds with their ideology, so they do everything they can to twist and distort history, in order to further their political and social agenda.
Simple question: If dropping the bombs was an evil act why are the Japanese now one of our staunchest allies and lovers of western culture after such a short period since the incident? Wouldn’t you think they’d hate our guts for generations?
This is why Jon Stewart is on Comedy Central.
Due to the nationwide food shortage... - it will be necessary to kill all of the infirm old people, the very young, and the sick.
Admiral Onishi: If we are prepared to sacrifice 20 million Japanese lives in kamikaze effort, victory will be ours.
With luck, we will repulse the invaders before they land. - General Yoshijiro Umezu
Who can be 100% sure of defeat? - War minister General Anami
Reminds me of the mindset of one William Ayres, he was also prepared to eliminate 25 million Americans...remember?
His is typical of nearly every totalitarian’s perspective since Robspierre and the French Revolution’s Jacobins: You can’t make an omlet without breaking some eggs.
"The thing the most bone chilling thing Bill Ayers said to me was that after the revolution succeeded and the government was overthrown, they believed they would have to eliminate 25 million Americans who would not conform to the new order."
