I used to listen to Severin. Right up until he went extremely anti war, anti Bush in 2006. He’s a Buchanan type isolationist. His stance was to pull the troops out and nuke Iraq. He’s a bit of a loon.

I agree with you and live in MA as well. Severin is a very very good talk show host with a superb command of the language and is probably the best in the country at “inside politics” stuff. He linked swine flu to illegal Mexicans which is arguably a true. A bunch of libs called in to use this as an excuse to get him off the air since he is a very strong and effective voice of dissent. He is absolutely not racist and xenophobic and his comments were against illegals most of whom are from Mexcio. I think he will be brought back but will be told to tone down the anti illegal rhetoric. Meanwhile you could write a book about a plot to kill Pres Bush and you were celebrated.

When I was a youngster in Worcester, MA, I was taken to an ER at the hospital across the street. There were so many Jewish people, both immigrants and born here, that you heard YIDDISH on all sides at all hours. I heard a nurse refer to the waiting room as a “Jewish Community Center”. No one was insulted, but there was a good belly laugh over it.
It was St. Vincent Hospital, and the nurse was a NUN.
Some people desperately seek out a reason to be insulted.

I get it, and I agree. I revise my words on a daily basis before posting and after having considered their impact. My concern is that we get into the habit of emulating voices on left-wing sites that emotionalize and mock rather than intellectualize and explain. Not that there’s anything wrong with expressing anger - sometimes it is utterly justified. In this case, I just wish to point out that immigrants - legal or not - are still human beings and deserve to be treated as such.

Jay Severin, the fiery right wing talk show host on Bostons WTKK-FM radio station, was suspended yesterday after calling Mexican immigrants criminaliens, primitives, leeches, and exporters of women with mustaches and VD, among other incendiary comments. And I missed it? (sigh) I miss listening to Jay since I moved to Va 6 years ago... (siiiiigh)

“geesh never mind it says it below lol well still freedom of speech “
This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Jay had no Constitutional right to say anything on WTTK. His boss controls that, not the government.

Severin did go anti-war but he made the most principled American first isolationist argument I have ever heard. No one ever made a cogent argument against this position on air and several tried. I do support the war because I think it was very important in the bigger battle against Islamic terrorism but I could listen to Severin because he was by no means a raging loony anti-war lefty. He was very strong on national security overall and a good voice for our side. He is more of a classic libertarian and other than the war I agree with him on pretty much every issue he has discussed.

“...citizens”??
We’re not citizens, we’re merely profit centers. A cow to be milked. Simply a host for the tick.

‘anti Bush in 2006’
Lol. Ahead of his time I guess.

If I owned that station I would have fired him as well.
Some of those comments were over the top. You cant rant against illegal immigration (which I am definitely against) without using some of those terms.
To: FromLori
There’s no free speech in this country if he got suspended for saying this...
To: massmike
There isn’t a new hate crime law (yet), and the fairness doctrine is merely a dream (for now).
The station is probably responding to advertisers pulling ads.

Geez... I’ve heard worse on KFI radio here in L.A...

He’s always been extreme, but I think his tiff with Imus put him over the edge. I am as passionately against illegal immigration as one can get, but I’ve turned him off lately because of stuff like this.

Some people desperately seek out a reason to be insulted. Only because they perceive that there is some reward in doing so.
It's the basic rules of positive and negative reinforcement.
You know...the dog pees on the carpet, you negatively reinforce that behavior. If the dog brings you your slippers (or a beer) on command, you positively reinforce that behavior.
In other words, it's high time we figuratively rolled up the Sports Section of the local newspaper and start swatting some behinds.
Just my humble opnion.

He also dared to call Mexican criminal illegal aliens criminaliens. That has nothing to do with the suspension because he's been using that term for years.
And the term he actually uses is "Crimaliens".

Mexican immigrants or illegal immigrants? The MSM has abandoned the ‘illegal’ characterization but there is actually a difference. A HUGE difference.

2 years ago I went to Martin Memorial Hospital in south Stuart, Florida.
I had Pneumonia and was caughing up blood. Took about three hours cause all the Mexicans from Indiantown that were getting free health care were there.
To: Joe Boucher
This is getting freaky. Are we really supposed to buy into the alternate reality world of liberal skanks who refuse to call a spade a spade because it does not fit their friggin world view? Terrorist attacks are now man made incidents and illegal aliens are now, what, our responsibility?
They are going to break our nation apart with their immature crap.
