Schwarzenegger not switching parties
San Diego Union - Tribune ^ | 5/1/09 | John Marelius

Posted on 05/01/2009 2:59:15 PM PDT by NormsRevenge

Not that anybody asked, but Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said on Friday that despite the superficial parallels between him and Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, he has no plans to change parties and become a Democrat.

"I was one of the first supporters of the Obama stimulus plan, even though I'm a Republican. I'm one of those few Republicans that jumped out and supported him. Right along with Arlen Specter, Senator Arlen Specter," the governor said in a speech to AltaMed's National Healthcare Reform Policy Forum in Beverly Hills.

"And the reason why I mention that is because I just want to make sure that you know I'm not going to become a Democrat because I'm supporting President Obama, because I think that the Kennedys have enough Democrats. I think it's about time that we have some Republicans also there."

Schwarzenegger backed Republican John McCain for president while wife Maria Shriver supported Obama. They had dueling cardboard cutouts of their candidates in their Brentwood home.

"I have a cutout at home of Obama. My wife has promised me that we will only have that cutout of Obama in our dining room until he wins. But he never left; the cutout is still there. So there are plenty of Democrats in our house and there are all kinds of debates and arguments.

"And people always ask me, this must be wild, you must have fights all the time about Democrats versus Republicans and about policy and politics and all those things. And I always tell them, actually we have no fights at all, especially since I've been sleeping in the garage. Everything is just fine, everything is fine."

ROTFL ... not switching parties? Based on how he governs, I already thought he was a Democrat.

Why not switch.. he is not a Republican in the way he has done his job as Gov...

In Fact.. I think his in-law politician relatives who have passed away would have been proud of him...

Oh thats a GREAT reason, NOT.

They have a cutout of nObama, how creepy.

“But he never left; the cutout is still there. So there are plenty of Democrats in our house and there are all kinds of debates and arguments.”

Debates and agruments, sure. I’m sure the girly man always gets the last word in, in these arguments, usually “yes dear”.

They have a cutout of nObama, how creepy.

If you think that is creepy, you'd probably not like the bust of Lenin
that he keeps in his Santa Monica office or the busts of Stalin
around his home swimming pool.

Why would he? It’s so much easier to screw the Republican party over from within than from the other side of the isle.

Arnold is irrelevant, don't waste your time worrying about him. He's term-limited and obviously ineligible to run for POTUS, and he'll get beat like a rented mule if he runs for Senate. He'll go back to Hollyweird blowing things up.

Here is his plan: Ahnold wants to bankrupt the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia as a Pubbie so it can be blamed on the Pubs.

THEN he will (officially) switch to the Democrap party.

Snarlin' Arlen MacSpecter said the same thing in 2001 when Jeffords switched. MacSpecter claimed he was "upset and disappointed" with the Jeffords switch and that he himself would NEVER switch parties because he ensures Republicans a voice of "moderation" and "inclusiveness", blah blah blah...

Of course Specter seemed to have second thoughts about that pledge when he learned there was no way he could be renominated in 2010 as a Republican. I suspect Arnie would have done the same thing if the CA GOP allowed a real primary in 2006 and Ahnuld was behind a well known credible conservative challenger by double-digit margins. All these RINOs care about is self-preservation.

I like the idea one freeper proposed of requiring a candidate's party affiliation automatically be switched if they vote with the opposition party more than 51% of the time in a year. A "truth-in-advertising" law. That would make Ahnuld and the Maine twins into Democrats overnight, instead of us having to put up with hearing about "Republicans" implementing the Dem agenda for them.

RU Serious?

Very serious.

The Times. London (UK): Nov 20, 1999. pg. 14

For the time being, Arnold is boss in Arnold's world, and a backward glance at his career shows why. Through sheer force of will he has become the supreme, magnified embodiment of the American Dream. He lives with Shriver and the kids - two boys, two girls - in Sunset Boulevard in Pacific Palisades. The compound consists of several houses and rolling gardens hidden from the street by towering eucalyptus trees. There is an Austrian room without any Hollywood memorabilia, in deference to a childhood when LA might as well have been the moon, and there is a swimming pool ringed by busts of Lenin and Stalin. He has said he hates losers, but he clearly admires grim determination.Variety, May 5, 2003 v390 i12 pS32(7) Schwarzenegger’s sprawling office within his company, Oak Prods., contains busts of Lenin, Reagan and John E Kennedy (whom Schwarzenegger admired, he says, even before marrying Maria Shriver, JFK’s niece). A group of bodybuilders from St. Petersburg brought the 3-foot Lenin head into the U.S. after the Soviet Union dissolved and presented it to Schwarzenegger. The next year, they wanted to top themselves.

“When they unveiled (a bust of) Stalin, I said no. I had to explain to them why,” he says. “Lenin was not as evil. He was just in the right place at the right time. But Stalin was evil. He was a dictator beyond belief. There were questions of who was more evil, Hitler or him.”

For the record, there are no plans for a Saddam Hussein statue in the Oak offices. “Saddam didn’t start anything great,” he says. “But Lenin started communism and the whole Karl Marx thing. He started something that lasted 70-something years.”
