New Kan. Gov. Says Abortion Views like Sebelius'

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Gov. Mark Parkinson says his views on abortion are "very similar" to those held by former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, but he acknowledges he hasn't studied an anti-abortion bill she vetoed before leaving office.

Parkinson's comments largely confirm what groups on both sides believed about his position on abortion. They had assumed he supported abortion rights, like Sebelius, because he ran as lieutenant governor on her re-election ticket in 2006.

Sebelius resigned this week to become U.S. health and human services secretary, automatically elevating Parkinson to governor. Legislators who pushed the bill are expected to try to override Sebelius' veto next week.

"Let me just state very clearly: My position is very similar, if not completely similar, to the governor's position on the abortion issue," Parkinson said during his first news conference as governor.

The bill vetoed by Sebelius would impose more detailed reporting requirements on doctors who perform late-term abortions.

Also, if a woman or girl came to believe her late-term abortion was illegal, then she, her husband or parents could sue the doctor for damages. Also, it would be easier for county prosecutors across the state to investigate and file criminal charges over questionable abortions.

Consider the logic of the left:

Waterboarding, a frightening and uncomfortable procedure that is otherwise harmless, is a national morale outrage to be elimnated no matter what the cost in American lives. After all, we are a nation of laws.

Killing babies, perfectly healthy and completely innocent, at the moment of their birth is a celebration of our enlightened humanity. Laws and the Constitution do not matter in this case.

This ba—ard was the Kansas GOP chairman until 2003. he joined the Dems in 2006 to run for Lt. Gov. for Sebelius’ second term. Her first term Lt. Gov. was also a Republican who became a Dem to run for Lt. Gov.

Which proves the point, when you settle for liberal Republicans, you get Democrats.

Politicians will always do what is in their own best interest, always. They will also always tell you what they think you want to hear. Always.

If you don’t think that Sam Brownback wouldn’t flip in order to ensure his election as Governor, think again. He will do whatever it takes as he clearly demonstrated by suppporting Sibelius’ confirmation.

Kansas-—a generally conservative state but why is it that they elect leftists or squish Republicans?

I only spent a few months in Kansas, in Olathe, over 10 years ago. Eastern Kansas is pretty, Western Kansas has lots of wheat, but I have never figured out their politics. Remember Alf Landon, Pres. candidate in 1936 was a ‘progressive’ Republican, a la Teddy Roosevelt. They seem to all take after the famous editor William A. White, a leading progressive.

I think today is a good day to remember that this is not true of all politicians. It wasn't true of Jack Kemp or Ronald Reagan, for example.

For better or for worse it wasn’t true of Pat Buchanan either.
