(Bill) Clinton To Sit On National Board To Promote OKC National Memorial Mission

Oklahoma City - Former President Bill Clinton said today he's joining a new board to promote the mission of the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

Clinton spoke to about 200 museum supporters, bombing survivors and rescue workers at the memorial and museum during day long visit. He later traveled to Tulsa, where he and former President George H.W. Bush spoke at a dinner for the Salvation Army.

Clinton was president when a truck bomb tore through the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building on April 19th, 1995, killing 168 and injuring more than 500. He says the stories from survivors and rescue workers had a profound and lasting effect on him and the nation.

The visit was the fifth since the bombing for Clinton. This time, he took a private tour of the memorial and museum and was honored with a Beacon of Hope Award for his support.

Clinton then headed to the Tulsa event, which drew nearly 1,000 people.

Bush says people call him and Clinton the odd couple because they ran against each other in 1992, but he says that doesn't mean they can't work together on important issues.

What? I thought OK was supposed to be a conservative state? A true conservative would never let something like him near their children.

Bush says people call him and Clinton the odd couple because they ran against each other in 1992, but he says that doesn't mean they can't work together on important issues.

I think I'll go puke.

I appreciate his work on behalf of this. However, I still bristle from his comments after Oklahoma City, in which he decried the “voices of hatred”, which was thought to mean Rush Limbaugh and talk radio had stirred up the lunatic fringe to blow up the building.

He must have looked at the roster of other people on the board and noticed a cute woman or two. “Golly, Hill, I’m just gonna wanda over to my meeting now, I’ll be gone for most of the evening so don’t wait up.”

Don’t you remember that Steph said Clinton was really “jazzed”
about the Oklahoma bombing? This bombing actually turned
his presidency around. If it hadn’t been for the Oklahoma bombing,
he would have been a one term president. I’m sure Bill Clinton
sees any Oklahoma bombing Memorial as simply an homage
to himself. Plus, he can use it to bash Rush and talk radio.
He really should start a David Koresh Memorial. With the help
of Janet Reno, Oklahoma City attack was made possible.

I would like to know if either Macvay or Nichols had the skills and expertise to build the type of bomb that destroyed that building? I don't know much about explosives but I don't think a regular truck bomb could have destroyed the building from where it was parked. Did anyone ever answer that question?

What's next, the annual Waco barbeque?

All those American Citizens roasted, just to cover up 3 former state troopers KIA.

Get ready, because your future holds in store for you a list of Obama involvements after he is Pres__ent that will turn your stomach as not much else has before. As bad as Clinton and Carter were, we ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

How could a memorial crew decide to involve a former First Felon with their effort? It tarnishes the whole effort IMO. I wouldn’t have anything to do with any effort Bill Clinton was associated with.

Huh....what....board members getting $500,000.00 to sit on the board?

How would the people that lost their lives that day feel knowing this man was representing them?

How many of them voted for him? It was a building largely occupied by Federal Government employees, and that’s a strong Democrat constituency.

Well, there are several books and numerous article which suggest that Clinton knew about the OKC bombing before it took place. He was all ready to go with his major speech about right wing militias and Rush Limbaugh and the rest of it, a speech that turned his re-election campaign around.

Here’s just one of those article. I don’t know if there’s much point in going through all of this yet again, since the cover-up is never going to be lifted. But I cannot think of a less suitable person to be honored in connection with the OKC bombing.

Well, the people who were killed in the bombing are, like, dead. I doubt they give a hoot about the memorial. I was simply observing, following your comment, that it’s statistically probable that many of the government employees and government-service-seekers in the building at the time were Democrat voters.

My first post asked what the “mission” of the memorial is. I have no idea. We lived in Oklahoma City at the time of the bombing, and in the state for a number of years afterward, but we never visited the memorial. I’m more of a battlefield person; those have an obvious point.

Sorry about the confusion! It would be interesting to know, though, what the “mission” of the memorial is, and how Bill Clinton’s participation is expected to contribute. One suspects the mission may simply to be raising money that will ultimately benefit the board members, with prestige, invitations, influence, trips, and so on ... in which case Bill Clinton is a perfect fit.
