Missouri state Sen. Jolie Justus of Kansas City on Friday boarded a bus for Iowa where same-sex marriage is legal to wed her partner of nearly two years, the Democratic senator said Sunday.
Justus said she married Shonda Garrison of mid-Missouri at a ceremony in Iowa City.
The two were one of 17 couples mostly from the St. Louis area that took advantage of the recent Iowa Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage in the Hawkeye State. Missouri does not recognize same-sex marriages, meaning that the marriage carries no legal weight back home in Kansas City.
The couples boarded a bus early Friday morning to make the trek to Iowa. Also on the bus were clergy members who came along to perform the ceremonies.
Justus, 38, said Friday was one of the best days of her life, but it also was bittersweet because of the marriage's non-standing in Missouri.
"We felt, though, that it was important that we be able to make that commitment to each other," Justus said. "My hope is that someday marriage will be recognized by Missouri and federally."

Too bad that she and her “partner” didn’t remain in Iowa permanently.
Is it just me or is the world going crazy?
When does the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution kick in? We need a consitutional amendment and soon.
It’s not you, trust me.
It is NOT just you.
Supposedly the Defense of Marriage Act gave states the right to not acknowledge gay marriages in other states if they don’t wish to do so.
But that won’t hold up for long. We need it in the US Constitution but won’t get it any time soon with the congress we have yet.
With a Constitutional Amendment, thirteen states can keep any Amendment from being enacted. By the time one would pass the House and the Senate, we will have thirteen states that allow same-sex marriage explicitly.
The world is going cuckoo and a lot of idiot America is jumping on board.
Call to Missourians for this embarassment.
No wonder the country is so screwed,
“No wonder the country is so screwed”
With people like this at the state level and Pelosi and her ilk at the federal level, it won’t be much longer till we’re done.
No everyone I talk to thinks the world is off it’s rocker and has been hijacked by GAY ALIENS....

“Why/how is there any elected official in the US like this?
How/why is there a constituency in a district to elect and re-elect someone like this?”
Unfortunately this creature is my state senator. The district is very liberal in the north where the “art and croissant crowd” house themselves. Kansas City is overrun with democrats..this is where Claire McCaskill was from and started her political career. This is the district that sent Emmanuel Cleaver, the liberalist reverend you’d ever wanna meet was a two term mayor. It’s an open sewage pit.
What a silly stupid woman.
What a waste.
My sympathies to you and the sane minority in that district.
“My sympathies to you and the sane minority in that district.”
I’m hoping against all hope that it will change soon. The Republican part in this county is made up a large herd of RINOs that has basically conceded that it will be a minority in this county.
I have to totally agree. Though she’s not as much of waste of a good looking woman as Portia de Rossi is.
“We felt, though, that it was important to we be able to shove it in your faces,” Justus said. “My hope is that someday marriage will be recognized by Missouri and federally.”
Judging from this photo, it’s obvious she’s the female. But that shouldn’t be a surprise since she is kind of attractive. At least 1000X more than her new wife.

Gag...
She’s not bad-lookin’, I’ll grant you, but I wouldn’t care to keep her permanently either. Maybe California?
I just got little pukes in my throat looking at that picture.
>>>When does the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution kick in? We need a consitutional amendment and soon.
It kicks in when the US Supreme Court rules on the issue, probably in the next two or three Court sessions. The gay marriage advocates have been patiently waiting for the issue to mature, in terms of general growing public support and state legislative approval in multiple states. Even with conservative justices, the Clause has sufficient clarity that no other result can occur then nationwide recognition of out of state legal gay marriages.
As you say, the only way to stop this is a new Constitutional amendment specific to marriage. That ship sailed I think. This fight is a dead end.
I think this broad has just told us what this is really all about. These twits don't care about being "married". They care about shoving it in our faces.
They want to force themselves into our schools, entertainment, and churches--only because they can and they feel powerful.
We couldn't get anywhere near a Constitutional amendment with any congress we had. It's a foregone conclusion, in my opinion, that we've seen the most conservative congresses that we'll ever see - only RINO's and liberals in the future - unless a major revolution occurs, and that's not likely to be a purely "conservative" revolution.
The only other hope I see on the horizon is a real spiritual awakening and true, spirit-wrought Christian revival - which would restore much of the lost innocence of conscience that can't be realized any other way. But I can't see that we even want this.
Why in the wide-world-of-sports do women, esp the attractive ones, choose their own ilk for partners? It must be the same "virus" that causes liberalism.
