Oprah.com and CNN have decided that there is a growing "new" trend in American sexual relations. The two Internet giants have teamed up and have decided that increasingly "women are leaving men for other women." Shocking news, I know. Only one little problem. Oprah.com has no proof for any such proclamation.
After the shocking headline and the first three paragraphs proclaiming a new lesbian revolution in America today, though, the piece admits that there are no real statistics to prove the thesis. The whole claim is merely based on the anecdotal stories of the "experts" that Oprah.com dug up to substantiate the tale.
The piece starts out talking of the "new kind of sisterly love" that is "in the air," details the several Hollyweird "stars" that have loudly involved themselves in lesbian relationships, and declares that as a society "we've arrived at a moment in the popular culture when it all suddenly seems almost fashionable -- or at least, acceptable" to become a sudden lesbian.
Yet... and yet there is this short admission:
Statistics on how many women have traded boyfriends and husbands for girlfriends are hard to come by.
In other words, folks, please just accept Oprah.com's claim as "truth" despite the fact that they have NO stats and NO proof to prove it.
The ridiculous piece goes on to give the anecdotal evidence of several "experts" that proclaim it a certainty that women everywhere are leaving those evil, rotten men for the soft embrace of a new girlfriend.
But, it is interesting that the entire piece focuses on the Hollyweird notables that have been struck with sudden lesbian syndrome and whove taken up with their softer side yet doesn't really talk about the real world at all. If one were to restrict study to Hollyweird, one would think that all sorts of unhinged, way out, and insane "trends" are the state of the country. I hate to bust Oprah.com's bubble, but the country isn't Hollyweird.
Just because some starry-eyed "stars" like Cynthia Nixon have tried on a new, kitschy trend in sexuality doesn't mean that it is happening all over!
This piece is pure junk. But it does reveal a certain moral direction that the entertainment media would love to see became a true national trend. I guess lesbian Oprah fans everywhere are just hoping that if they state as a fact that lesbianism is a growing trend, despite that they have no evidence that it is a true statement, then maybe, just maybe it will occur anyway.
So, like Oprah.com and CNN, I think that I'll proclaim my own "new" trend even though it doesn't exist. OK, here goes: my "new trend" is that more people than ever are turning to Warner Todd Huston's salient opinion pieces on NewsBusters.org to guide them in their everyday lives. There, that's settled. It's now a fact. Well, why shouldn't I be able to make things up out of whole cloth just like CNN and Oprah.com? What am I? Chopped liver?
Besides.... I'm a lesbian too. I like chicks, myself. Does that count?
We have a saying in the IT world:
“The plural of anecdote is not data”.
Another WTH moment.
LOL ... Leftards, even notice they suffer from sudden leftard syndrome?
Oprah just trying to justify her own sinful lifestyle.
More garbage. Maybe it's true among the hollywood elete they pal around with but I doubt it's true by and large. These are the same morons who think 0bama is the messiah.
If you can start a fad by proclaiming a falsehood, then you can make it so, os so certain prominent lesbians hope.
Great quote!
If this really is a ‘trend’, wouldn’t it be evidence that homosexuality is a choice, and not a matter of being ‘born that way’?
Perhaps this is an unintended consequence of making gays a special rights group. Now you can not only be a just an oppressed woman or an oppressed minority woman, but an oppressed, gay, minority woman for triple bonus points. They have to hire you, they can’t fire you, and you don’t even have to show up.
In fact this could cause a “Tootsie Syndrome”.
From what I’ve seen of hard-core (butch) lesbians, it’s not a big loss. I do think that a lot more women engage in casual lesbian experimentation that is admitted. I once had a [rather hot] girlfriend who admitted that she would occasionally “neck” with other women. When questioned (under the influence of additional alcohol), apparently necking involved kissing, naked cuddling, and even mutual y’know. [No, I didn’t her to it, but think what you want.] At the time, I was kinda shocked, but since then I’ve heard other women hint at similar things in kind of an off hand way (usually while inebriated). BTW—that girlfriend is now married (to someone else) and has 5 kids. Unlike male homosexuals, I think it’s much more natural for women to switch between the two polarities. The butch lesbians are a whole different ballgame, however.
As Oprah goes, so goes the nation.
Guess she’s leading up to telling us what we all knew all along.
Oprah and Gail are in a committed relationship. To put it kindly.
I’ve known three women who went over to lesbianism, and I can say without a shred of doubt that all three were complete and total nut jobs.
Tactic #6 in the Josef Goebbels Handbook for Correcting Political Deviation:
Present the desired outcome as a fait accompli. It is harder to argue against a reality than an abstraction.
This is only the NATURAL course of things brought on by the modern feminist movement. WE don’t need men!...
Oprah is a Lesbian......period.....her bouyfriend was a ‘beard” like Rosie’s “crush” on Tom Cruise was.
DEFINITELY using that one! Brilliant!
And what the hell is going on with the media? They're making proclamations all across the land about the liberal causes championed by the same folks who voted for Obama, The Almighty, The Most High, The Most Reverent.
And to the article: ...REALLY? I know lesbians, but they've always been lesbians. Maybe they dabbled in men a little when they were in high school/college, but for the most part, they've always loved women. Some new thing where women are defecting to other women means one of two things:
Any way we look at it, this article, before being debunked, should've been debunked by common sense. The media are a bunch of pablem-puking idiots.
