Romney Suggests Palin 'Beautiful,' Not Influential

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney joked about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s place on Time’s list of influential people, saying, “But was that the issue on the most beautiful people or the most influential people?”

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” broadcast Sunday, Romney was responding to a question from the moderator as to whether Time’s inclusion of Palin and talk show host Rush Limbaugh on their list of “The World’s Most Influential People” was a positive or negative thing for the Republican Party.

Romney added, “I think there are a lot more influential Republicans than that would suggest.”

After his boss caught flak for his apparent dissing of Palin, Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom spun the comment as just “a self-deprecating joke as to why there weren’t more Republicans on the list,” according to a report in Politico.

“I think there are 100 influential Republicans alone who have tremendous ideas and I hope that we can all work together to accomplish what we believe is best for America,” Palin said through a spokeswoman.

Romney is terrified of Palin so he takes cheap shots at her, how juvenile.

Seems to me that she’s at least as influential as he is. He sure didn’t manage to get me out to vote for McQueeg.

I certainly can't blame Romney for his statement. He obviously knows a threat when he sees one. And like the rest of the RINO’s, they have to get their shots in against Sarah when they can.

They know they would lose in a face to face competition against Sarah. I actually feel a little bad for them, lol.

Cmon now. According to Rush and Levin and the rest of the gum flappers, Mitt was the cat’s meow. Of course they only discovered that after McQueeg was closing in on the nomination. I just cracked up when they starting pimping for him.

DUH, the magazine named Palin.

By your reasoning, Mitt also thinks Rush Limbaugh is one of the Most Beautiful people.

It wasn't a dig. I heard the quote.

Since when has FR become a feminist website - taking offense at a compliment to a woman's beauty?

... and come to the conclusion that it was a jab at Palin.

It was a jab at Palin, there is no way to spin it as anything else.

Romney, you were not nominated because your are essentially a lib. (What else could one be as gov of one of the most idiotic states in the union?) Pay no attention to the counter to this argument, that the nominee was even more a lib...albeit much more clumsy in front of a microphone.

So, just become a dhimmi and please, please take McKennedy with you.

Trix and the D party are for kids. Leave conservatism to the adults.

I'm not a Romney-hater, he was my third choice after Hunter and Thompson, but as I say this strikes me as tone-deaf.

The jist of the rest of the article is that the GOP swells are trying to ignore Palin, they don't get that it is the GOP rank and file that loves her.

“She’s bigger in the media than in reality,” commented GOP consultant Mike Murphy, a longtime adviser to John McCain.

No, the media hates her as much as apparently the GOP bigshots do. Its the ordinary folk who love her.

Since people are trying to eliminate Mitt to improve Sarah’s chances.

I would safely conclude that the fat red faced Rushbo is out of the beauty consideration, so his answer had to apply to the Saracuda.

I suggest Romney is a jerk, not influential.

I agree with him. She is only influential with the voters and the GOP doesn’t seem to have a lot them.

What exactly did he say wrong? I think you fellas should be slamming the maker of the list. Certainly, there are more in quantity who should be on that list than Palin and Limbaugh. Don’t ya think?

The only ones spinning are those attempting to spin it as being against Palin.

I don’t like the guy, I wouldn’t vote for him, but I’ve heard him say enough nice things about Sarah that it would be a stretch to think this was a jab at her.

Was it also a jab at how beautiful Limbaugh is?
