Democrats wallow in a 'culture of corruption'
LA Times ^ | May 5, 2009 | Jonah Goldberg

Posted on 05/05/2009 4:14:19 AM PDT by Scanian

Some days you have to ask yourself, my God, what if these people were Republicans?

Democrats took back Congress in 2006 and the presidency in 2008 in no small part because of their ability to bang their spoons on their high chairs about what they called the Republican "culture of corruption." Their choreographed outrage was coordinated with the precision of a North Korean missile launch pageant. And, to be fair, they had a point. The GOP did have its legitimate embarrassments. California Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham and lobbyist Jack Abramoff were fair game, and so was Rep. Mark Foley, the twisted Florida congressman who allegedly wanted male congressional pages cleaned and perfumed and brought to his tent, as it were.

Of course, it wasn't as if Democrats were without sin. Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson was indicted on fraud, bribery and corruption charges in 2007, after an investigation unearthed, among other things, $90,000 in his freezer. Then-New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer was busted in a prostitution scandal.

But that's all yesterday's news. Let's look at the here and now. Barack Obama, who vowed he'd provide a transparent administration staffed with disinterested public servants with the self-restraint of Roman castrati, appointed an admitted tax cheat to run the Treasury Department -- and he's hardly the only one in the administration.

New York Rep. Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, is under investigation for, among other things, failing to report income from his Caribbean villa. Meanwhile, Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, got sweetheart deals from subprime lender Countrywide and has yet to adequately explain his too-good-to-be-true deal on his million-dollar "cottage" in Ireland, which he may have gotten in exchange for finagling a pardon (from President Clinton) for a felon.

“...because of their ability to bang their spoons on their high chairs...”

Best line so far, today. :)

Let me ask all of you a sobering question:

Are we going to make it to 2010 before hell breaks loose?

There is corruption and then there is perversion say such as the threat to ‘jail’ your political predecessor for lawful legal acts.

My first thought as well. I’m having a difficult time believing the LA Times would print anything bad about their messiah. I’m going to assume, until otherwise proven wrong, this is the Time’s attempt to show they are fair and balanced.

5,000 articles praising Obama and the Dems, 1 that is negative; See? We are fair and balanced.

3 months ago you would have had to put sarc with that. Now that gov runs the banks, auto companies, insurance companies and health care and we haven’t even gotten to taxes , inflation and losing everywhere on the foreign front.
It seems like an appropriate question.

No. Although if America gets unglued from American Idol and Dancing With The Stars long enough to realize it is bad I will be shocked.

Hello. That was a bit of collusion between the MSM and the DNC to reclaim control of Congress.

Their so called "culture of corruption" boiled down to Tom DeLay (who's case still has not been brought to trial and was fraudulently filed), wasn't there some bogus charge against Bill Frist (and wasn't he found not guilty or charges dropped?), and two homosexuals who were outed (one accused of being a "toe tapper" and the other accused of being a child molester even though the DNC and media knew otherwise at the time, they rallied their charge "all the way to the top of the party" who they claimed "knew and did nothing" while subsequent congressional investigation revealed the Democrats and media knew MORE and knew sooner and sat on the information until they could spring it as an October Surprise).

od commentary but... it will have no effect in Ca., the Soviet Republic dominated by Dems in the Leg. and Arnold the Rino. Sorry for me, since I live in Ca. The Dems do not want fair redistricting either and have the votes to stop it. The public,,uniformed and dumbed down, voted againt it the last time it was on the ballot. Yipe.
