Poll: Bring back Spitzer, say New Yorkers

(CNN) — OK — this one's really got to hurt.

A new poll suggests that a majority of New Yorkers would prefer to have disgraced former governor Eliot Spitzer in office right now instead of the current governor, David Paterson.

And the Marist College poll, released Monday, indicates that less than 1 in 5 New Yorkers approve of the job Paterson's doing as governor. Paterson's a Democrat, but even among his own party, only 22 percent think he's doing a good or excellent job in office.

This new Marist poll continues a trend seen in other recent surveys of New York voters that indicate Paterson's numbers are plummeting.

Two-thirds of those polled say Paterson doesn't have what it takes to lead the state.

Was Eliot Spitzer convicted of anything? Or did he just resign in disgrace over the hooker thing? Wasn’t sure if he was forced out over criminal charges, or if he can make a political comeback.

What do you expect? They voted for Cuomo for AG when he had almost NO experience as an attorney. And, what experience he did have was for only a few months & THAT being 20 years earlier.

I agree with your sarc response, but it makes me wonder.

Why has there not been any charges of racism here? I expect it, like I expect the sun to rise.

sad thing is that if Cuomo runs against Paterson in the primary he will win the Governorship (more than likely)

Like Spitzer is going to be any better than Patterson. Spitzer is still going to raise taxes, tout gay marriage, and see that New York circles the drain.

I guess some levels of stupidity are indefensible for even Democrats.

He resigned. No charges were prosecuted. He’d have to get re-elected though. Can’t just unresign, I don’t think.

Patterson is just inept.

It’s clear that his whole political career was a joke.

"Was Eliot Spitzer convicted of anything?"

Unfortunately no. Paterson is a disaster, and Spitzer isn't any better. Gay marriage, licenses for illegals, threats and intimidation, as well as his involvement in Troopergate. I live in central NY State, and could only hope that the rest of the State would keep that POS from getting back into office. We managed to finally defeat Mario Cuomo years ago, perhaps we'd be able to get enough votes to defeat Spitzer, especially now that he's been laid bare. Leopards don't change their spots. If people think Spitzer has changed, and somehow he's been humbled, they're wrong.

Thanks to the many hapless and crooked officials, like Obama, Paterson, Rangel, Napolitano, and Kwame Kilpatrick, the USA’s grand but foolish experiment with political correctness and the pursuit of diversity solely for the sake of diversity will someday come to an end as more and more people realize what a colossal failure it truly is.

Too bad almost everything of value and substance will be destroyed by the time that comes to pass.

As a silver lining to the situation. If we can make it though the next few years in NY AND if the NYRNC can run a decent conservative candidate, we could gain control for the first time in my memeory (excluding RINO’s). This may be a Carter/Reagan moment.

“As a silver lining to the situation...”

I admire your optimism. My advice, though, is to abandon all hope and move to SC where I’m fleeing. (I live in Ct)
