The CIA's Fight With Obama

Has Barack Obama made an enemy who can sabotage his presidency?

The presidency of George W. Bush began to unravel when some in high positions at the Central Intelligence Agency began waging a covert campaign against him.

It began in the summer of 2003 when officials at the CIA asked the Justice department to open a criminal investigation into who had disclosed to columnist Robert Novak that Valerie Plame, wife of controversial former diplomat Joseph Wilson, worked at the CIA.

The officials knew at the time the Intelligence Identities Protection Act did not apply to Ms. Plame, who'd been out of the field for more than five years.

Those a-holes also allowed Mr. Wilson-Plame to write an op-ed that was guaranteed to shine a light on her.

I think they deserve what they get from the dems. If their field guys wind up taking it in the shorts then sadly, that's TFB.

" The CIA's war against President Bush was motivated by ass covering, or by political partisanship. But with President Obama, it's personal.

Many are furious about his disclosure of explicit details of the interrogation methods used on some al Qaida bigwigs, and his waffling on whether or not those who employed them will be subject to prosecution.

Others are incensed by his decision to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, and to let some of those incarcerated there (17 Chinese Uighurs) loose in the United States.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held two hush hush meetings with CIA Director Leon Panetta and Democratic members of the Intelligence Committee last week.

"Her fear and frustration have apparently given way to panic after word reached her of the CIA's reaction to the damage she, President Obama and other Democrats have done to the spy agency in the last three months, wrote Jed Babbin, a former Deputy Undersecretary of Defense, in Human Events May 1. "Pelosi learned that her actions and those of President Obama have so damaged CIA morale that the agency's ability to function could be in danger."

The upshot of the meetings was an unprecedented letter from House Intelligence Committee Chairman Silvestre Reyes (D-Tex) to Mr. Panetta, making a quasi-apology. Rep. Reyes asked the CIA director to "disseminate it to the CIA workforce as soon as possible."

Obama deserves whatever the CIA could do to him, he does not deserve the respect from any American. What would really be rich is if they leaked some things that could get him out of office. ( wishful thinking)

" It began in the summer of 2003 when officials at the CIA asked the Justice department to open a criminal investigation into who had disclosed to columnist Robert Novak that Valerie Plame, wife of controversial former diplomat Joseph Wilson, worked at the CIA.

The officials knew at the time the Intelligence Identities Protection Act did not apply to Ms. Plame, who'd been out of the field for more than five years.

Another blow was struck with the publication in 2004 of the book "Imperial Hubris" by Michael Scheuer, who'd headed the bin Laden desk during the Clinton administration. It was harshly critical of the Bush administration's conduct of the war on terror in general, and the invasion of Iraq in particular.

Never before had a serving officer been allowed to publish such a book.

The CIA typically slow-rolled and censored books even by retired CIA directors.

"Why did the CIA allow such a controversial book to be published in the first place?" asked attorney Mark Zaid, who specializes in national security law. "There is simply no question that the CIA could have prevented the publication of Scheuer's book if it had wanted to do so. And no court would have sided with him."

Why would some at the CIA want to sabotage President Bush? One motive might have been to deflect blame for intelligence failures. The CIA confidently had predicted Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction. But none were found. The tactical intelligence the CIA provided to the U.S. military forces invading Iraq proved nearly worthless. And the CIA was caught flat-footed by the insurgency that developed several months after Saddam's fall.

There may have been a simpler motive. The novelist Charles McCarry was a deep cover CIA operative for ten years. "I never met a stupid person in the agency," he said in a 2004 interview. "Or an assassin. Or a Republican."

The CIA's war against President Bush was motivated by ass covering, or by political partisanship. But with President Obama, it's personal.

The place is exceedingly "compartmentalized". I've heard you can work there 30 years and not get beyond encountering maybe 100 people, but that may be extreme.

I worked in a DC Headquarters operation with USPS for several decades. There was no compartmentalization at all. However, I can tell you about the 12 Republicans I ever met.

There were more of 'em but in America's most unionized organization Republicans and conservative Democrats just kept it quiet.

Having been the ONLY guy in 50 years to pass around union cards for the purpose of calling for a union election to gain representation for USPS Headquarters employees, I was more or less entitled to be as Republican as I wished.

BTW, all the Republicans were among the first folks to give me representation cards. That was one cowardly batch of Democrats Fur Shur.

Top management at USPS do nothing whatsoever to open up promotion opportunities for Republicans or others. Because of their indolence the political balance at USPS Headquarters is pretty much the same as it was at POD Headquarters under Franklin Roosevelt.

You guys might talk to the Republicans appointed to the Board of Governors about that from time to time ~ or should I say the RINOs appointed to the BOG. Their cowardice is equal to that of the Democrats in that agency.

If Nazi Pelosi is in a ‘panic’..it is not because she fears that the CIA morale is low. It is because she is afraid of this whole thing blowing up in the dems faces and them losing their power. Of course, it could be that she was told that some ‘secrets’ were coming out soon on Obama and the rest of the dem traitors(including her).

I'd rather hope that the CIA is reformed or replaced with an intelligence service that is capable of doing it's job. The CIA didn't see the fall of the Soviet Union coming, was caught completely unawares by Pakistan's nuclear test, didn't alert us to 9/11, provided bad intelligence about Iraq's nuclear capability and pushed hard for an Iraqi invasion, and then undermined the Bush administration and the Iraqi war effort at every turn.

The democratic process is more than sufficient to get rid of a bad president, and I trust it a lot more than I trust the collection of boobs and scoff-laws at the CIA.

Man, the CIA doesn’t like anybody coming into their turf do they? Mad at GWB, mad at their imperial premier of communism. The CIA is full of lifer government milkers. It’d take an all out attack by two or three carrier groups from the Navy to bomb that place clean.

The presidency of George W. Bush began to unravel when some in high positions at the Central Intelligence Agency began waging a covert campaign against him.

The shadow government. The same one that attacked Joe the Plumber for making ZerO look bad during a debate even though "Joe" did not even attend.

The shadow government is liberal Democrats who put Party before country and seek to tear down their political opponents by any means necessary and using their unelected government jobs to thwart the elected administration and expose people even if such leaks are criminal (as in the case of those who spilled details of Joe's record).

There is no chance of that. The CIA has been pro left for years and is more likely to attack Private American citizens than Obama.

We would be netter of if the CIA was disbanded and a new agency started from scratch. No intelligence is better than bad intelligence.

If Obama's administration is undermined it will be through the Israeli Intelligence service.

I thought this passage was particularly interesting:
He leaned forward. "The world can go - how do you say - sideways with this man very quickly. No one he has working for him knows what they are doing - possibly excepting Mrs. Clinton - and he certainly does not. All of us in our little community are worried - us, our friends in Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, and Langley too as you say. It is not like the barbarians at the gates. It is everythere are no gates. The Somalis, Chavez, Iran, Putin, Beijing, the ‘Norks" as you call them, the list is long and it is growing. We are not sure what to do."
I've been dying to post that passage since I read it last week at TTP! Wasn't sure whether I'd violate subscription rules though.

It's not just the CIA that Zero is pissing off. It's the intell community world wide.

I look forward to Jack's "Glass Half-Full" column eagerly every Friday. It's helping me stay sane in the age of Zero (along with FR, of course).

The CIA is not an hermetically sealed box. Stuff slips out ~ kind of like with an evaporating black hole ~ and among the things that "slip out" are those that already have a non-CIA source that no one outside the CIA had happened to ever look at ~ or put together.

People like Pelosi should be in a panic. The woman's father was a Siciliano Portectore while mayor of Baltimore. Odds are good Nancy was complicit in some of the deals. She can be brought down.

The CIA itself doesn't lean any way at all. About 99.99% of its work involves building up "intelligence" from raw data ~ and that's pretty dry stuff.

It's in the policy formulation areas at the level of the highest directorates that politics, and political leanings, might have bearing, but every President does get his own guys into critical slots anyway.

Thre you go again, believing Leftwingtard propaganda.

The CIA observed, first hand, the rapid drop in the Soviet Union's oil production back in the 1980s and correctly predicted what would happen.

They managed to have that information PUBLISHED in the New York Times although I first read it in SCIENCE magazine where the appropriate factoids were placed by people friendly to the CIA.

One of the first things Boris Yeltsin did was make sure American oil production specialists got a shot at helping repressurize Siberian and Russian oil fields.

Voila, they were repressurized, other fields were opened up with the services of American and Japanese oil engineering firms, and the rest is history.

For several years before the fall of the Soviet Union the fact that the system there was going to fail was WELL KNOWN.

BTW, before you get too far down that road, Joe's stuff wasn't a "record" as you put it but simply ordinary information held in confidence by the courts and tax authorities in Ohio.

He'd done nothing criminal. However, agents of the State of Ohio commited criminal acts against Joe(not his real name).

He will eventually be elected Congress. He will also be awarded millions of dollars in damages by Ohio and federal courts.

The agents who revealed confidential information were ordinary political appointees very typical of the sort Democrats ALWAYS appoint. They wouldn't have made it into the CIA as lightbulb changers.
