There is supreme irony in our first black president trying to institute involuntary servitude in a non-military and hence extra-Constitutional context.
And we should keep in mind that this program will not be intended just to facilitate voluntary service, but to indoctrinate all young people into a leftist philosophy of government and society. The program is intended to be an extension of the Democratic Party's recruiting efforts, fully subsidized by the government.

I am absolutely positive that my children’s hundreds of hours of volunteer service (of the non-mandatory-type) to organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Habitat for Humanity, feeding the homeless, collecting and distributing clothes and toys for the less fortunate, and mission trips will NOT qualify as service. Only left-leaning uber-marxist social issues allowed. Rahm can kiss my *$$.

There are already plenty of opportunities for kids to get involved in public service. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Youth groups at school and churches, and their parents fraternal organizations. We don’t need the government forcing kids into their version of the old Soviet Union’s Young Pioneers.
