Straw man argument, but good try. More people were raised to be self-responsible in that era and were more likely to take responsibility for being screwed up. This kid and his parents are products of the Dr. Spock touchy feely, everything is someone else’s fault, modern mindset and therefore blamed, you guessed it, someone else.

some music does help drive nuts over the wall..yes or no...i think some music provides impulse or acts as a soundtrack for many actions from love making to driving fast to yes I guess committing bad acts too

and some music probably helps some folks despondent kill themselves too...

not sure there is much one can do about any of it unless the music's intent is to do that

I don't think anyone really wants their music to incite folks to the degree some do...although some underground groups really do push dark things sometimes;...

Aw, man. They're great! Very melodic and with a wide variety of songs (ie, not a lot of songs that sound alike). The idea of "Better By You" leading to anyone's suicide is outrageous. Besides being a freaking Gary Wright song, it's uptempo and not of a depressing nature in the slightest. If I remember right, the trial hinged on two things: the supposed backward masking of "do it," and the line about "leave my blood on her windowsill."

I know from doing it myself that you can put "evil" messages in songs. You just sit around and come up with a line, speak it into a microphone, play it backwards, and it often sounds close to another phrase. For example, if you say, "Here's to my sweet Satan," it sounds like "There's still time to change the road you're on." So, it's possible to get a message in there in that fashion. But, I don't believe that the human mind can process that and subconciously know that it is saying that backwards (and, I don't think Zeppelin sat around doing that, but it does work out that way).

The windowsill line leading to a suicide doesn't even make sense.
