My Fellow Americans, Thank You For Your $8 Billion Gift To Chrysler
the business insideer ^

Posted on 05/06/2009 1:45:15 PM PDT by FromLori

Every last man, woman, and infant in this country just gave $25 to Chrysler's unions and an Italian car company. Is the White House going to explain that one?

The White House confirmed yesterday that the $8 billion in "bridge loans" the U.S. taxpayer has given to Chrysler over the past six months, including $4 billion in bankruptcy financing, won't be paid back. Taxpayers also won't be getting a big slug of Chrysler stock in exchange.

Instead, the wreckage of Chrysler will be divided up among Fiat, Chrysler's unions, and Chrysler's debtholders. Which means that the taxpayers' $8 billion was just a gift to these three consitituencies.

We don't know about you, but we can think of a few dozen charities that we'd rather have given that $8 billion to than Chrysler's debtholders, Chrysler's unions, and Fiat.

Is the White House going to explain this one, or are we just supposed to ignore it?

I’m trying to figure out just how they can give the stock to the unions. can’t the real stockholders of these companies sue to keep their shares from being so diluted?

Just shut up and pay. What are you, some kind of hedge fund or speculator looking for a bail out? You people make the White House press corp sick.

Since not even a third of all Americans pay income tax (kids don’t), this is more like $75 from all taxpayers.

We should have never bailed them out in the first place back in 1977.

That's what I'm not getting. Usually, a securities class action law firm would jump on this. But in this case, the plaintiffs' lawyers are lobbyists for the democrats so it poses a conflict of their interests.

Most folks are apathetic, but if the GOP can illustrate the idea that average taxpayers are paying for $3200/month UAW pensions and platinum health coverage, there might be some backlash.

The government is having a tea party at our expense and then making us clean up afterwards. Then, they’re raping corporations and sending us the medical bills. Then, they’re making sure our children are ignorant and subservient through the public education system and causing all of us to have to work 2-3 times as hard to pay all of the bills. And no one wants to do anything about it? What has happened to us?

52% (and growing) of the population could care less. The other 48%, just shut-up and get back to work. Short of a revolution it’s game over for the minority of citizens who didn’t vote for Zero. What’s our’s is their’s for the taking. If you don’t believe it, just call for a vote.

Well, most Americans like us will not ignore it; but I can assure you, you will not hear a peep from the Republicans in congress. Just crickets.....
