How to put Democratic leaders on the defensive just like Chris Matthews 'got' Cong. Pence yesterday
self | May 6, 2009 | self

Chris Matthews used a gotcha question about evolution to ambush a GOPer off his game yesterday, and gloated about it today. Now here's a way conservative reporters can get prominent Dem. leaders and other liberals to cross a line, hem and haw, or look stupid: "Sir or Madam, are you an ape? Are you a great ape? Answer this question directly, yes or no."

When Chris Matthews got Congressman Pence (I think it was Pence) to avoid the "Do you believe in science?" question yesterday by bringing up evolution, he played it to the hilt. Turnabout is fair play. Let's make monkeys out of them.

No matter how they answered it they would lose half the population, and if they answered “No” they’d lose libs.

Only an idiot goes on Chris Matthews show. He has NO numbers anyway and is out to make any conservative look bad.

That’s playing directly into their hands.

I’m a firm conservative and not a creationist. Better to use the fact that we’re a diverse group to make them look stupid. The left is trying to stereotype us with what they believe in an attempt to drive a wedge that need not exist.

Pence is as bonehead if he can’t spank Matthews. Duncan Hunter regularly chewed Chrissy and his ilk up and spit him out

I’m not sure where you are going with this, but conservatives who argue against evolution are nuts and do nothing to help unseat the administration that is destroying the country in front of our eyes.

When are republicans going to stop going on ANY of these shows?

Who on EARTH thought it was a good idea for Sarah Palin to be interviewed by Perky Katie Couric. (Every time I think of her smarmy “Can’t you just think of one example?” question to our beloved Sarah I WANT TO SMASH HER IN THE FACE)

WHY TALK TO THESE IDIOTS?????

Matthews put up a segment today based on his interview yesterday, arguing that conservatives don’t believe in science so they have no say on global warming. Tom Tancredo did a good job today, but he knew what was coming.

If we can get one prominent dim to say he’s not an ape, then he loses the lib crowd. Worth the asking, IMHO.

The problem is all of these people that think creationism has something to do with conservative government. It makes us all look like uneducated jackasses that can’t understand complex ideas.

“Do you believe in evolution?”

“No, it doesn’t explain the existence of Obamunists.”

Hunter was asked the Evolution question during the debates and gave a near perfect answer.

Something along the lines of... “God created life, how we got to where we are is a matter of personal beliefs”

Without any hemming or hawing. He never has to think up politically correct answers. He already knows what he believes and will tell you straight up.

"I’m not sure where you are going with this, but conservatives who argue against evolution are nuts and do nothing to help unseat the administration that is destroying the country in front of our eyes."

An honest debate is, hopefully, a search for the truth by both participants. The fact that you appear to discount any argument against evolution suggests that you are in possession of definitive proof of evolution. My honest investigation into the issue has led me to support the anti-evolutionists yet I continue to search for any new info...I've been wrong before but I honestly seek truth. Evolution is a theory that I have grown up with and never questioned...until I did. Then I discovered that the fossil record just doesn't support the theory. So I continue to question, a true agnostic.

Did you stop learning about evolution in like 2nd grade?? That’s like asking “if evolution happens, how come there are still monkeys?!” It just makes you sound ignorant at best and crazy at worst.

Don’t knock it until someone trys it. I bet John Kerry would answer the question with a long-winded go-around and look like an idiot.

The fact that this pumpkinheaded jackass seems to think that answering a metaphysical question on the natural of man's very existence/origin is something a politician should be focused on is laughable.

But then again I believe Matthews went to Holy Cross...Ha.

The problem with having an “honest debate” between “evolution” (aka, all of modern biology) and creationism/intelligent-design/whatever is that one side is saying “it’s magic! any evidence to the contrary can be explained by more magic!”, which makes any kind of scientific debate a pointless exercise.

Sorry, that doesn't make any sense at all. The theory of evolution says that men and apes have A COMMON ANCESTOR. It doesn't say that humans are DESCENDED from apes themselves.
