Suspect detained over 'extremist' bumper sticker

A Louisiana driver has been stopped and detained for having a "Don't Tread on Me" bumper sticker on his vehicle and warned by a police officer about the "subversive" message it sent, according to the driver's relative.

The situation developed in the small town of Ball, La., where a receptionist at the police department told WND she knew nothing about the traffic stop, during which the "suspect" was investigated for "extremist" activities, the relative said.

The last paragraph of the article (don’t want to get in trouble- copyrights?) - We are subversives for seeking information that the “mass media products & outlets” won’t publish?

WHEN the mass media starts acting with some integrity and does some REAL investigative reporting, maybe i’ll look at them again. No guarantees.

I'm familiar with Ball. I had friends who wouldn't drive through Ball because the cops harrassed them to much. I was followed for 5 miles once and then stopped and given a sobriety test (I'm a teetotaller) simply for driving through town too late.

A relative actually filed an harassment suit against the ball police.

They've had trouble before. They had a cop they had to fire because he was stopping attractive girls. He went down the road and got a job in Pineville.

During the 1960s and 70s all kinds of hell was openly and freely raised by the "alternative media" (proudly proclaiming themselves the "underground" press). This of course was the propaganda media for the Marxist hippie street rabble against "the Establishment."

Berkeley Barb, East Village Other, Ramparts, and others I cannot remember just now. There was also of course MSM propaganda for the Marxist hippie street rabble against "the Establishment."

Now guess what? The 1960s Marxist hippie street rabble and their ideological issue are "the Establishment." And guess what again. The bastards suddenly do not believe in free speech -- they never did of course.

Conservatives knew that -- ironically it was us who were silenced.. by the "Fairness Doctrine."

I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a department of any size where this hasn't happened. Except for possibly the getting fired part.

My custom plate is "FREEPER".

A couple days ago a hot little sports car that had been parked behind me, backed up an on ramp (I was parked in a parking lot), pulled up beside me, rolled down his window and yelled "What's a Freeper?" He must have been a rabid Lib, because when I told him, he hit the gas and took off spraying me with gravel.

Now, where’s the fun in that??? I work in public education. While McJuan was not my choice in the Primary, I placed a McCain/Palin sticker on my vehicle for the General Election. It’s still there - and generates looks and a few comments. There’s a level of pleasure in working at a public school and parking my vehicle with the assorted military support stickers and the McCain/Palin sticker on it. The “Don’t Tread On Me” will fit right in with the other stickers.

I know where that town is, but haven't driven through there recently. Don't know anything about the cops being overly zealous (or just plain bored). I do know that lots of small towns are dusting off those questionable old police tactics that I'd hoped were gone for good, just to bring in revenue.

I saw one area near Shreveport, LA where the speed limit had been reduced 10 mph since my last visit. Good thing I noticed, too - the area was crawling with police cars. As I've seen many times before, they zero in on the people driving BMWs, Mercedes and the like.

The latest thing I've noticed, on I-35E north of downtown Dallas, during late afternoon rush hour, was motorcycle cops riding *opposite traffic* on either side of the main traffic lanes (on the shoulder and in the HOV lane), trolling nice and slow so they can see if everyone has a current inspection sticker - and catch any drivers who aren't wearing seat belts.

I started taking an alternative route, just on principal. Next thing you know, they'll be handing out tickets if your license plate frame is 1/8" too wide, or something.

Put it low or high, depending on your vehicle, on the outside of the back window. When the time comes you can scrape it off easily, and I find "goo gone" works great at taking up the residue of the "stick 'em". I usually use it when I change out my state registration sticker.

Of course, this needs vetting, but I find the closing statement of more concern than anything else here.

....for the lexicon defines "alternative media" as "a term used to describe various information sources that provide a forum for interpretations of events and issues that differ radically from those presented in mass media products and outlets."

I was born and raised in Shreveport. Shreveport is 50 percent Black. Of those 50 percent, in my estimation 95 percent are below the 'poverty line(by choice and their own actions). Shreveport is broke. Sleazeport, Lowsyana is a cesspool. Shreveport has led the nation a few times in murder rate per capita. Captain Shreve set sail down the Red River long ago, never to return. Or maybe he went North.

But my point is, if Shreveport/area cops are 'zeroing in' on luxury cars, they must not do too much business. You see far less 'BMW's, Mercedes, and the like' than you would in most towns of equivalent size. And if the cops were targeting one of the very, very few areas that might have enough luxury traffic to 'target,' wouldn't you think the targeted rich would have the power and money to complain to city hall...after all, aren't they running things anyway? Yeah, I thought so. So pardon me if I'm a little skeptical.

And if you were talking about a small town outside of Shreveport...like Oil City, Belcher, or Vivian maybe...well, they've seen a Mercedes...once.

I'm pretty sure the luxury cars that I mentioned were "just passing through" on I-20 or I-49. Shreveport is the first city of appreciable size east of Dallas.

Seems like most of the police activity is just south of the city, along the 49 corridor. Saw it happen again yesterday, on I-20 near the state line (on the Texas side), right around Waskom. The cop paced a group of cars traveling east, then pulled over someone in a Lexus.

I didn't mean to imply that this stuff is only happening in Louisiana, or in the Shreveport area. Cops routinely target certain drivers for various reasons - out of state plates, headed in the general direction of the casino (which Shreveport has, correct?), etc. They are obviously writing a lot more traffic citations these days; is it really surprising that they'd go after people who look comfortably able to pay?
