Obama's decision to end School Choice in DC
Washington Times ^ | May 8, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 05/07/2009 9:49:21 PM PDT by JohnRLott

Fighting to save the District's popular school-voucher program, some 1,000 parents, pupils and politicians gathered near Mayor Adrian Fenty's office on Wednesday to protest Congress' plans to end school choice in Washington.

That same day, the Senate approved a $4,500 voucher for cars, encouraging citizens to trade in their old automobiles for newer ones that burn less fuel.

So, Congress thinks that vouchers for schools are bad, but vouchers for cars are good.

Slashing school vouchers spares teachers' unions from competition. On the other hand, car vouchers are supposed to boost demand for cars built by the United Auto Workers. The obvious explanation for this schizophrenia: Congress does whatever helps unions.

A closer look reveals that Congress has it wrong in both cases - which is what happens when lawmakers let interest groups trump common sense. . . .

Ah, but the affirmative action figure proves his duplicity once again because he is going to allow the program—which has been extremely good for students—to continue for those now in it and until they graduate, then end it. Yes, the marxist fraud is doing his usual shuck and jive.

What we need to do is to initiate a states’ rights movement re: education like the Montana gun legislation. Won’t help D.C. immediately, but.... it would get the freaking federal government out of our kids education.

Public schools and the Democrat party exist for the teacher unions.

Minorities need to know their place and stay in it.

Know your place, ask your block commissar union rep.

I knew you would understand, “NP”.
But, I do like to be precise in my language.

I grew up in the formerly great city of Detroit.
It is now one of the laughing-stock cities on the planet. When I was growing up there in the 60’s, the schools were second to none (for government schools).
Everybody in my neighborhood had fathers that worked,
and the neighborhood was clean, and safe.

Now, due to the leftist policies of the former, and late mayor, Coleman Young, current representitive John Conyers, felonious ex-mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, his mother, Caroline Cheeks Kilpatrick, the foul-mouthed, incompetent City Council member, Monica Conyers, and yes, the UAW, AFL-CIO,
and the other assorted dregs of the Democrat Party we have:
(Ta-Daaa!) The current and probably forever, sh!t-hole City of Detroit.
So, the voters fix to this unmanageable, ludicrous, and untenable situation is: Vote Democrat!

But, the schools have done their job well.
You now have ignorant children, who will pull the appropriate lever when their time comes, to vote for more empty promises.

My only hope for my city is that Dave Bing, former Detroit
Piston, businessman, and recently elected to the post of Mayor, can pull off the nearly impossible.

I saw yesterday, in Denver, the murder rates of red states vs.blue states. And guess what? Well, it’s too obvious.
I was at O’Hare Airport last night. There was a feature on tv about the slaughter of kids happening on the very turf that our Illustrious Leader, BHO, was supposed to represent.
35 kids, so far,this year.

Wait! I have an idea! Let’s outlaw guns in Cook County!
Why did I never think of that before?
Fortunately, I now live many miles from that insanity now.
I hope you, and yours are safe, and well, Navy Patriot.

Yes, the marxist fraud is doing his usual shuck and jive.

This move is beneath even him. He's sending his own kids to Sidwell Friends, because he knows that the D.C. schools are abysmal and dangerous. But the kids he's consigning to this hell-on-earth are not his kids, so he has no problem sacrificing them on the altar of Marxism.

He must be familiar with the biblical passage about children and millstones. He should give it another read.

A President And His Priorities

By JASON L. RILEY

“Does President Obama care more about black criminals than black schoolchildren? Before dismissing the question as too cynical, consider where he is spending his political capital these days.”

“Unfortunately, the Obama administration seems more interested in the sentencing gap than the learning gap. The president pays lip-service to the need to open pathways to educational achievement, but he and Education Secretary Arne Duncan have been actively working to shut down Washington, D.C.’s Opportunity Scholarship Program, which provides low-income children with $7,500 per year to use toward tuition at a private school. Mr. Obama can’t claim that the program isn’t working. The latest evaluation by his own Education Department showed scholarship recipients — 99% of whom are black or Hispanic — outperforming their public-school peers in reading. That finding takes on even more significance when you consider that black 12th-graders in this country average lower reading scores than white 8th-graders.”
