Short answer, if you are ever being attacked and want police response immediately. Say “officer down!”.

Yeah! Then you get arrested for false reporting and have to pay a lawyer a couple grand to keep your clever @$$ out of jail!

Sure sounds like fun to me...

Good grief, this girl wasn't abusive at all.  I shoot with a dozen LEOs multiple times a week and have dinner with them afterwards.  There isn't a one of them that would consider this girl's language abusive, but I'm quite sure they would all like to run this type out of the ranks.

On the other hand, unfortunately there is an enormous amount of information we don't know about.  If I worked with this officer daily for years and he was a very good and professional cop, I'd give him a break.

If your a 911 operator/cop and can’t take the heat....you know you the rest.

If you are calling for help, keep your language clean. This girl was verbally abusive, and the 911 operator simply doesn’t have to take this kind of abuse; no one should.

Actually if you work for the government I can't imagine what abuse you don't deserve. . .

Thanks for your service and for sharing your observations. There is much to be said for the concept of time-in-grade.

It’d be under false pretense but it’d get the response that could save your life.

Police were on the scene WATCHING when the man in Texas shot the home invaders who were approaching his property.

911 operator instructed him not to shoot.

Officers were waiting for backup while the man was instructed not to protect himself.

You are on your own in this world if you want to follow all of the procedures.

Why should they give a faster response time to one of their own men down rather than a civilian? A dead man is still a dead man. The violent act is the reason for the needed response team, not the job of the person who’s been attacked.

It could. Then you could spend a few months of that life in jail, and get no response at all the next time you call 911.

Ever hear the story "The Boy Who Cried 'Wolf!'"?

There's a reason why it has lasted for so many generations.

Just one opinion.

OTOH, it was news because the other hundreds of thousands of officers did their job perfectly, but you won't hear about that...

I'd wager that quite a few 911 calls contain profanity. Stress and fear tend to have that effect on people.

Epileptic seizures are especially effective at scaring the hell out of people, too - even if you've seen it before.

911 Operators deal with a lot. A lot of prank calls, a lot of bogus calls, picking up the phone and getting an earful of profanity is not something that anyone has to tolerate.

Call your doctor, and drop the F-bomb on the nurse that answers. Insult her, threaten her and see where that gets you.

Call your fire dept and swear at them, or maybe your insurance agent. Walk into Walmart and let loose with a string of profanity at the Returns Desk, what will that get you?

Why do you expect a $9/hr civil servant to take the abuse that you wouldn’t dream of dumping on anyone else. They are there to help you, not to be abused by you.

I will call 911 after I have dealt with the problem.

What an interesting point of view. Let's verbally abuse our police force, the emergency responders, firemen, the people working in our hospitals, teachers, utility workers, and all those people who fight for our country too. They are all Gov't workers, even those soldiers fighting to keep you safe.

Must be a horrible existance for you, feeling that you have the need to verbally abuse people who's only purpose in life is to help others.

Years ago I saw some guys drag another guy out of a bar, knock him down, kick him, and stomp on him. It was scary. I called the cops and got a female. She asked if I was in the bar. I said no. She said, "Well, if they need help, they'll call." I said, "No, this is outside the bar and the guy who needs help is unconscious. They are stomping on his head." She repeated what she had said, so I hung up. I called back and got here again. She gave me the runaround again. I called back the third time and asked for her badge number. "Sir, we'll send an ambulance right away." What a dick chick.

The ambulance arrives, takes one look at the guy, puts him on a stretcher, and away they go.

Other times I've called I've felt like they are trying to blame me.

I've got relatives that are great cops, but a few just seem to have their own agenda, and it's not helpful.

BTW, this guy didn't have to call her a stupid ass, either.

Indeed no one should have to take this abuse, however, it is her father who is suffering the consequences.

So, instead of blaming the abuser, we translate the blame upon the victim of the abuse. If this were your daughter, would you curse the 911 responder, or would you council your daughter to watch her foul mouth?

I'd say something along the lines of "Your mouth could have resulted in my death, if this had been a life threatening situation. No one has to put up with profanity, and you took what should have been a routine 911 call, and turned it into something that should have never happened".

No one has to deal with profanity. Some of us are less sensitive than others, but no one should be forced to be the recipient of verbal abuse. Instead of getting into a fight with the abuser, the operator simply hung up, and kept hanging up. Eventually, the message got through.

This girl was verbally abusive

No she wasn't.

She said "What the F@#K" as an expletive to no-one in particular on a line that was still ringing. When she said it there wasn't anybody answering (which is why she said it).

She then asked for a ambulance in a measured tone, the response to which was to be given a lecture on her behavior.

She was agitated and frightened and used a swear word but that's not "abusive" she did not abuse 911 operator, at least not until he had had wasted more precious time to abuse her, calling her an "ass" - which he did before ever asking what the problem was.

Meanwhile her Dad is lying on the floor having a seizure for SIX MINUTES and nothing is being done to dispatch assistance!

I'd be abusive after that!

$9/hr civil servant

I think 20-year-veteran Sergeant McFarland makes a BIT more than $9 an hour.

Makes me wonder what else was wrong with the cop if they have an experienced sergeant sitting on the 911 desk routing the calls.

This is a $60K/year police sergeant, according to the video. Did you actually watch the video? Initially, she was just an upset girl saying "I need an f---- ambulance". She was swearing, but not directing abusive language AT the officer. At least not until after the overpaid civil servant HUNG UP on her 911 call without dispatching an ambulance!

Subsequent calls were a bit more heated, but I would be plenty upset too at this point.

I don’t condone what the calltaker did but for you to suggest people make false reports of crime is wrong.

A $9/hour civil servant?? Don’t you mean a $62,000/year LEO?
And if he can’t take some hysterical call from an overwrought person, afraid for a life, then he’s too darn sensitive!! There’s a time and a place for reprimand and BEFORE he helps the desperate victim is not the time nor the place.
Even his boss says this, and the “law enforcement” officer has been suspended.

So. Can you admit that your position doesn’t hold water or must you hold onto it merely because that’s the first thing you thought of?
