It is standard practice to have a command officer in communications. Depending on how the office is set up with either civilian operators or sworn personnel.
If you have civilian operators they may not have the level of experience to ask the “right” questions to pass to the dispatcher while the crew is enroute.
In any event, a “street” cop has heard the language before, talks like a sailor when necessary and has the capacity to cut through all of it to do his job.
While I normally don’t pass judgement on other officers actions...this guy screwed up in the way he handled the call. There is no justification to hang-up on ANY 911 call. You talk to the person to get the necessary information and then act accordingly.
In the discussion, most people seem to miss that fact.
It seems you hold 2 sets of standards. A 911 Operator must take whatever verbal abuse, whatever tone, or whatever profanity is offered - and be glad to have it. I guess he is your personal puppy that you get to kick whenever the mood arises.
Yet, try this at a resturant, a hospital, a service station, a fire department, or use that language directed to a soldier and see what happens.
Walk into your local Walmart, try using that language at the Returns desk, or to your cashier. Call your family physician, your dentist or your mailman a list of profanity. Good luck with that.
Actions have consequences, act like an abusive idiot; you should get treated like an abusive idiot (ie. ignored).
Yesterday, an article was posted here; and I’m not finding any success in searching for it. The transcripts were all there. My workplace does not allow streaming video through - firewall thing. But, I did read the transcript - I hope you have better luck than I did in retrieving it.
Whether the person makes $9/hr or $100/hr is immaterial. Most children realize that swearing is wrong. If you call your MD, and say “I need an f—— appointment”, or your Fire Dept and say “I need an f—— Firetruck” - don’t be surprised if the recipient of your profanity is irritated by your language. Do you call Pizza Hut and say “I need an f—— pizza”?
The english language has thousands of words, the average person knows over 20,000 of them - yet only a very select few are considered vulger and offensive.
You tend to blame someone for refusing to listen to profanity - I blame the young girl for not being able to express herself better than what she did.
You see, I have called 911 to report a house fire, and to request an ambulance. The house had people trapped inside, whom I helped get out before the fire trucks came. The person I called 911 for was having a heart attack.
Guess what? I was fully able to convey the urgency, the location, the status and the needs accurately, clearly and without the single need to invoke profanity. It’s just not that hard.
Not making any excuses for the cop, it appears he was out of line. However, she called once, hung up because she didn’t get a fast answer and called again. The first thing he then hears is her saying “What the *****”. Is it possible he thought this was some sort of prank call?
At any rate, he should be reprimanded, but the poster who suggested he lose everything over this is nuts.
Folks with a thin skin should not be in that type of work. Expletives are part of the job especially where 911 is concerned. If a situation escalates to the point of having to call 911 (for the most part), fear and/or anger will make some people say things they normally would not.
Call control is very important for obvious reasons.

Kind of interesting that an incident from last fall would suddenly be getting all this publicity. You don’t suppose that if we checked around a little we’d find her lawyer just filed his compensation claim with the city do you?
Interesting question. Do they rotate though, so every cop gets a turn in 911? Part of a training policy? Was this in leu of adminitrative leave due to an infraction? Did the cop have surgery, and was offered this station instead of burning sick leave?
But, at the end of the day, does it really matter? I don't know about your job, or your workplace - but we have very harsh and severe penalties for co-workers who use profanity to people outside of their department. For example, imagine a Navy (Sailor or Officer) walking up to an Army Sgt. and telling him "I need you to f----g (insert anything here". Let's just say that it wouldn't be a good situation. Getting hung up would be the LEAST of your problems.
Now, what happens within your department, at least among co-workers, is just fine and dandy; providing it's not done to insult. Just watch your mouth when dealing with outside parties. So, for the sake of habit, if nothing else; our languages here is very 'G' rated. If nothing else, it makes for a friendly work environment.
Since no one has commented on this yet (and I do think it’s pathetic the 911 operator couldn’t handle a bit of language repeated a thousand times on, e.g., The Sopranos):

Dunno if there is a cause or not. I would hope it is a ‘legal’ justification for it.
Perhaps, the servant failed to properly execute his job. At the least; he should be fired.
His bad day could have cost someone their life.
He actually refused to send an ambulance! “No, you’re not going to get one!”

Depends on the situation. If a Navy sailor said to an Army Sgt "Hand me that f----g stapler", it would be appropriate to tell the Navy guy to watch his mouth.
If a Navy sailor said to an Army Sgt "Get your guys and grab your f----g guns, we got pirates coming over the railing!" and the Army Sgt did ANYTHING BUT quickly comply, I would have the Sgt court-martialed, if not thrown overboard.
In an emergency situation where lives are potentially at stake, EVERYTHING takes a back seat to dealing with the emergency, including being bothered by bad language.
