“Most forget that Fred was lamblasted by the press early because he represented the biggest danger to Zebra zero. Fred was kicked in the teeth early by the press and hard. I don't blame him for his performance because he was put down from the get go.”
Yes, but I wanted him to fight back and he just didn't! Plus the fact that we conservatives were all split on whom we would or could support with the choices available being mostly RINO’s. Even when the Republican primary was down to five, and Rush said “Thompson was the only conservative on the stage”....it did not help!

Fred was kicked in the teeth early by the press and hard. I don't blame him for his performance because he was put down from the get go. Please. Pathetic excuse. If good men and women laid down and died whenever the press said they should, Reagan would've been a rotting corpse in his first month of office, as would GWB after Iraq, as would Palin within 30 seconds of her accepting the running mate position, etc...
If you go into an election as a conservative, you have to expect the press to always be against you. It's just common sense.

It's of course my opinion but it's shared by many. There's also what I consider to be evidence. 1st of all, he stated more than once before his late entry into the primaries that he wasn't really interested in going back into politics. His reluctance was evident while as a ground swell of conservative pressure and support, mine included, mounted, calling him to enter the race. There was some question at the time about whether his wife had also pressured him to enter. After he entered, he often seemed less than 100% during his appearances. As time wore on his demeanor and performances seemed less and less inspired. There was one debate near the end of his run when I thought he seemed relived that he might lose the major primaries enough that he could drop from the race.
For me the whole thing added up to someone who his country needed and for whom his country was calling - the only seeming viable conservative candidate on the menu. His utter lackluster appearances and performances were a great let down for those of us who were hoping against hope he'd come to life.
Maybe God was not calling him to this role, no one but Fred knows that. We're not in a position to judge people, but I can honestly say that, nevertheless, it was a great disappointment.

Thank you for your reply.
While the instances you cite in your first paragraph are valid, much of it was media created in the same way as all of the trophy wife crap was. The media came out hard against him, and never let up.
No one was more disappointed than I when he dropped out, but I don’t think he let his country down.

By the time he dropped out, I wasn't disappointed, I was relieved, because for months he was like a false hope. I was disappointed in him from the start. I hate the media, but I don't blame them for Fred's performance. Maybe Fred didn't want the fight because if he wanted to, I think he could (and did, sometimes) cleverly parry and repost with the media and skewer their Marxist ilk ("liberals", falsely so called).
Did he let his country down? I think so. Why? Because he was in a position to make a positive difference and I think could have if he'd had anything close to a Reaganesque passion for saving our country. I don't judge him, he has his reasons. Maybe God didn't call him to this. Then he would have no business trying to do it. At that point one could say God let our country down, at which another could answer, yes, but our country has more than let God down.

God bless Fred, but his credibility in political arena has gone way down for me, not unlike how I feel about Gingrich, who also let our country down but for far less excusable reasons. Where are our True American Conservative Leaders? I think God is dealing with our country. "For the transgression of a land many are the princes (bureaucrats/regulators) thereof..." Proverbs 28:2

We may not agree on Fred, but we do agree on God's involvement, though I believe we are in a heavenly war.
God will win. ;o)
