As I came back from Canada, at the Houlton, ME entry point a month ago, I was pulled in and interrogated for half an hour over an arrest a decade ago for disorderly conduct (I was in the middle of a divorce, called my soon to be ex-wife a name in front of the police.) I paid a $100 fine the next day in court and it was done. Or so I thought. I almost missed my flight back to Columbus. And for what? Did they really think they were going to keep me out of my own country?
Wouldn’t want to further inculcate our country with the horrors of hockey or curling, eh?

Well, the ruse of border security has to be carried out somewhere — certainly not Mexico. Too many voters coming across now that Obama is in office. Maybe he will station ACORN accomplices along the border to hand out voter registration forms....

Unlike the Mexican border -- which is half as long - no drug war or chaos rages in the north. Arrests and drug seizures in 2008 totaled less than 1 percent of those down south.
We are being governed by brain addled, PC idiots, as the two above statements well illustrate. This might also be a deliberate plan to move some assets to the north to weaken the southern border even more. Nothing can be ruled out considering the nitwits now in charge.

The checkpoint going into Buffalo NY is just awful. I was coming back from a getaway in Toronto and Homeland Security treated me like some third-world terrorist. Going to Winnipeg next weekend, hopefully the border is better.
Amazing that they treat citizens this way. I can only imagine that this is recent. It never was so bad even last year at this time.

We did a Niagara Falls trip last September. I can’t tell you how many times we crossed the border. We were never stopped, even with a dog in the car.

Two weeks ago I returned from a week in Finland. I have no cause to pin my return experience on having been in Finland, other than to compare it with my returns from the UK, Germany, Netherlands, France, China, India, Austria, Australia, South Korea, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Mexico and wherever else I've been... but I'm not laughing.

Suggest a read of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. You'll be near the end before you see it (warning: it's a long read), but you'll recognize it in a flash.
Read it years ago. Know the big themes, but have forgotten much of the detail.
Same for me -- but the read is REALLY different this time. I highly recommend a re-read of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged with today's situation in mind.
My guess is: the movie being made "from" this book will not be at all true to the book (if the "Office of Morale Conditioning" or modern equivalent allows the movie even to be released). Too many citizens subjects would be angered by the parallels. Buy a copy of the book now, read and contrast with the movie later (if released).

Same thing with me. I’m formerly from BC and have settled in this great country. The immigration stops between Canada and the US is as night and day.
When I went back last Christmas, it was straight forward “hi, are you declaring anything and what is your purpose in Canada?”
US side: “So you’ve been in Canada for how long? Are you sure? Where do you live? What is your status in the United States? How much do you have in your wallet? Where do you work? (for the next 20 minutes)

TSA/INS agents get cockier at the Canadian border because they don’t have to face PO’d Hispanics coming back from Mexico. Those with the attitude problem were probably laughed at the southern border.

Every year we are invaded by seasonal Canadians who come here (Florida). They stay for a few months then go home. They do not take our jobs and very few steel our woman. And they are educated and clean.
On the other hand the southern border is inundated by unwashed, uneducated, untrained, criminals who come here and get on welfare and NEVER leave.

The increased security is to provide the necessary infrastructure for tightening the surveillance of the border for later, when Obama will be restricting commercial and individual traffic across the border.He will restrict the amount of currency which can exit the USA and the amounts that can enter. Wire tranfers between Canadian and US banks will likely be prohibited or require "pre-approval." Zero does not want people with dual citizenship in the USA and in Canada doing their banking and investing through Canada, which has a far more secure and stable finance system. (The US banking system can't compete with Canada's.) This is legal now, and Obama will likely make much of that illegal to keep capital inside the USA. This is the continuing war against America's "investment class" who are mostly conservatives.
This is just the beginning. People wanting to slip up to Canada for a hockey game, or a weekend of shopping will be put through interrogations at the border upon re-entry in order to cast a chill on such travel.
The free flow of capital between Canada and the USA is likely about to be restricted in the coming months.
The sooner we are rid of these Zero isolationists, the better.
This is not about political correctness.Its about letting in poor Mexicans who are of a politically correct ideology, and preventing Canadians from entering the USA who are largely not of politically correct ideology. Canadians do not have revolutionary barrios inside the USA.
There are miles and miles of the Southern border one can simply walk across with no challenge. On the Canadian border it has been the same,but that will now change , but it won't change in the South.
Thats why we have the minutemen watching the Mexican border , and not the Canadian one. The Canadian border is not as permeable as the Southern border , even without the new "Surveillance" announced by Napolitano.
