Watching what President Barack Obama is doing with the country makes me think of Venezuela under Chavez. Is it any wonder they're buddies? They certainly have enough commonalities that many people see the two together in heart, mind, and action:
But times have changed and so have strategies. Saul Alinsky, radical of the '60s, author of "Rules for Radicals" who was all about taking power, suggested that you target your opposition, make it personal and destroy him. Recent decades have seen this play out in the demonization and ruination of a host of people. They weren't killed, but they were in essence destroyed so that no one in the mainstream culture would ever again listen to or heed their advice. Richard Nixon ... Oliver North ... Clarence Thomas ... Dick Cheney ... Tom DeLay ... George W. Bush ... Sarah Palin. Have Americans stopped to think that these destroyed people are all on the political right? Have they noticed that Bill Clinton and Ted Kennedy and Barney Frank still walk among us, exercising influence, with whatever reputations they have in tact?
Yes, times have changed. Under the careful guidance of Fidel Castro, the driving force behind the Sao Paulo Forum, a new method of gaining power has emerged: 1) Get elected through the system, 2) change the constitution, 3) corrupt the elections 4) nationalize banks and industry and 5) punish your opposition. A leader needs to make just a few bold moves in each category so that all will get the message. According to Alejandro Esclusa, the former Venezuelan presidential candidate who has been tried on several occasions for his opposition to Hugo Chavez, this insidious method of instilling a totalitarian regime is now working in 17 Latin American countries.
"It would seem that the changes that started in Venezuela in the last decade of the 20th century have begun to reach North America," Hugo Chavez said just last week even as he was jailing opposition mayors in at least three cities.
And President Obama has a 90% approval rating with Democrats. The statist impulse is strong on the other side. And they don't mind that the President of ostensibly all the people demonizes those who go to Tea Parties. Hugo Chavez doesn't like opposition either.
First, they came for speech, then they came for banks, then they came for the auto industry, then they came for the internet, now they come for health care. And before it's all over, the state owns you. Every part of your existence is subsumed to the state.

The federal government is investigating the takeover last year of a leading American manufacturer of electronic voting systems by a small software company that has been linked to the leftist Venezuelan government of President Hugo Chávez.
My TV boycott started in 2000. I allowed 1 hour of broadcast TV weekly...ER...only if it was a new episode. The series is over. My TV is simply a display for DVD/Bluray or the Wii my wife put in the livingroom. The DishNET HD was canceled a few months ago. Most of these changes have been cost driven as I've had no paying contracts since Nov 2008. The XM and Sirius radios are next on the chopping block. The last item will be the cell phones.
There are a few Internet free TV systems. channelsurfing.net is very good and also blinkotv.com.
Channelsurfing had the golf tournament and lots of other programming. FoxNews, you name it.

They will never own me. I am one step ahead of them. We can leave with a few days notice and never come back if he succeeds. We bought a home outside the US. Everything is taken care of. We will not live in a Socialist/Communist country.

Where outside the US has any better prospects? (Panama and Costa Rica come to mind as possibilities, however I believe that they, too, have leftist governments).

I’ve honestly thought about this from Day 1 — well, actually the day after the election... That he would have his own form of Communi-Fascist Personality Led Dictatorship. So far everything is going right along those lines.
His takeover of financial institutions, and then the automotive industry, bailouts of other industries (newspapers) etc... etc... He’s doing it piecemeal, but he’s progressively taking more and more power everyday... And he’s got Congress and the Senate to help him by passing more and more laws that limit our freedom... Putting family, hobby and organic farmers “out of business”, messing with our food (outlawing heirloom seeds), Fining citizens for selling outgrown children’s clothing & books (see the new Yard Sale Laws...), taking control over the internet... Well, I could go on and on, but I’m preaching to the choir here...
Oh I forgot one more thing... What really gave me chills and kind of really ramped up my “threat detector” was when that Democrat woman (Boxer?) announced Obama on Inauguration Day, and she said, “What we are witnessing is a peaceful transition of power”. But the way in which she said it, gave me an ominous feeling...
Like they (the far-left Dems) had always thought they would have to have a violent revolution to take control and destroy our Constitution — now there are those (like Snowe) on the right HELPING them dismantle our country piece by piece...
Just looking at the face of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn on Election night should’ve removed any doubt that if THEY were pleased, we were in a LOT of trouble as a nation... As if people don’t notice the smug, condescending, narcissistic face of their new Pres_ent?
God forgive me, but I have a hard time forgiving all the ignorant people who voted this guy into office...
Don’t forget the Dioxin Poisoning in Ukraine of the opponent of the “Russian Supported” candidate for their election, too... Besides, Putin’s KGB through and through — an “Old-School” Communist, for REAL...
Well, at least Obama hasn’t shot any college students yet for protesting the government taking over ALL the media - like in Venezuela.
And, at least we can still find meat (for now) on our grocery store shelves. Obama hasn’t yet made himself President for life (although I’ll be the ACORN money will help with that — now to just get the term limits changed...).
Anyway, it doesn’t matter the WAY they do it — it only matters the outcome, really. Obama is a combination of a Fascist, and a Communist dictator. He joked his doctrine was “Obama-ism”, and I don’t doubt it for a second... He is a collectivist, and there’s only one way this can go... From bad to worse, unless the people wake up. Unfortunately I think there are too many people in our world who need to learn the “hard way”...
That may be his downfall... I personally think he’s moving TOO fast for his own good. Too many people are waking up — still don’t know if it’s too late or not. He hasn’t gotten “Everything” yet...
